Just came across the old footage of the trip to Porlock in about 1951.

Wonderful to see pictures of my Father Trevor McNaught in his boat Peter-Loo.

I'm sure I remember Tom Lanham's voice too.

I recall the Lilly Pad pontoon going in about 1953 I think.

I was at St John's on the Hill school at the time, aged about 9. Now 73 !! how time flies. Peter McNaught

.My uncle, Don Hodge, was a member of Chepstow and District Yacht Club in the 1950’s (he appears to have been Commodore in 1959), but sadly no longer with us.

My uncle was the most modest of men.

He had taught himself to sail a dinghy on the Thames on the basis of his experience sailing model boats on a park lake as a boy.

He then undertook a 2 year voyage with 3 others on a 30ft boat – to the Canaries, then across the Atlantic, round the Caribbean and up to New York – but I would not be at all surprised if no-one else at Chepstow ever got to hear about it!

In 1951, Don started work in Coleford

Ian Coddington
