I love animals. When I am not working, in school or with family/friends, I am at Good Life Refuge in Longmont volunteering. I have always loved being in nature and with animals. They are an instant boost to my mood. This is Morgan and just hearing my voice, he comes running. My wish is for our compassion and kindness to reach to all beings.

I know there is a connection between our mind, nerves and immune system. About 20 years ago, my friend developed Crohns disease. Doctors told her it was stress related. We were both military, mothers and often deployed leaving our children behind. I, have an amazing husband and never stressed leaving my 1 child with him. Her husband played the 'babysitter' role to their 2 small children and could barely handle a day alone much less months alone. She also had many other stressors in her life. I saw first hand how her stress affected her immune system. She went from being diagnosed to having an almost permanent feeding tube with multiple hospitalizations to eventually separating from the military.

Walter Bradford Cannon

In 1911, Cannon began studying the physiology of emotions. He did so after he noticed peristaltic waves in the stomach ceased when an animal was frightened or disturbed. This stood out to me, 1 because of my friend I mention but 2, I think we all experience or know people who's digestion is affected by stress.
He also coined the term "homeostasis" in 1926. Which I think is important to our health.
However, I have to dislike him as he was an advocate for animal experimentation in medical research.
