PLOT:
Football coach, Jim White, loses his job after he loses his temper and attacks a team player in the locker room. He and his family relocate for his new job at McFarland High School in McFarland, California, which is predominantly Latino. White is first put as assistant football coach, but ultimately loses his football coaching status when he pulled a player out, fearing he would be badly injured on the field. Discovering that some of his students are strong runners, he organizes a boys' cross country team. Its seven members have little hope for their future. They become a close-knit, mutually supportive unit. Under White's guidance, the team becomes outstandingly successful, winning nine state titles over the years. All the members of that first team escape the cycle of poverty in their lives, being first in their families to go to college or into military careers. Almost all members continue to attend the practice that Jim White held for successive school cross country teams even after graduation from college.
This movie will make you think about your life, opportunities that you have and how you use them. Also you begin think about other people, their life and about reasons because of which they do something.
Acted poignantly, directed brilliantly.
