August 4- Murdered bodies of 3 men found on a farm outside Philadelphia.
August-- September-  nine black homes, churches, and businesses are firebombed over the course of three weeks

Freedom summer was fighting for more ability for African Americans to be able to vote in Mississippi. In June 21, 1964, three men who were volunteers in freedom summer disappeared.
