Invasive is a lot like infections, like Thrush or Vaginal Yeast, both infections caused by a yeast. The thing that differentiates Candidiasis from these two examples is that Candidiasis is not localized to a section of the body, instead it is found in different and more serious areas. Even multiple areas at once, areas such as the heart, brain, eyes, bones and even in the blood.

Has received a plethora of antibiotics recently.
Has kidney failure or are on hemodialysis.

Prevention and Treatment

There are a few ways to prevent Invasive Candidiasis:

Practice being a safe patient by speaking up and asking the right questions, questions like "How long will my Venous Catheter be in?", or making sure hands and equipment is clean before it comes into contact with skin.
Making sure the health-providers are up to date with the CDC and registered lists of providers, make sure you know who you are going to be treated by and read the reviews.
For Those at a high risk of contracting Candidiasis: Antifungal Medications are strongly recommended, especially if you are receiving an organ transplant, are in the ICU for a prolonged amount of time, are undergoing chemotherapy or hemodialysis, or are receiving stem cell and bone marrow transplants.

Since Invasive Candidiasis is not contracted by everyone there will most likely not be a surge or a big threat of it, most hospitals are very careful when it comes to sterilizing equipment and making sure the venous lines are not in for too long, hospitals actively avoid risks of Invasive Candidiasis.

Recent Sucesses: The most recent success is preventive antifungal treatments before patients go into the ICU, get Venous Catheters, or get organ transplants.

Scientist George Thompson has just recently been approved for a fungal injection called Rezafungin to help treat IC.

And thus, the mortality rate has since been lowered.

Diagnosis and Treatments

The most common way to diagnose someone with IC is through testing a blood sample from the patient, from there the blood will be tested to see if it will grow Candida in a culture. There are other ways to diagnose as well, such as physical examinations or a revision of medical history.

As far as treatments go, they vary by type, but longevity is typically two weeks with normal responses. When given medication the type depends on age and other health factors, for adults with IC they are typically given antifungal treatments such as Echinocandin through an IV. Other cases may require Fluconazole or Amphotericin B.

For cases of IC not in the longer the treatment time is typically longer because the infection type is more serious.
