2. Most GAS infections are relatively mild illnesses such as strep throat or impetigo.
3. on rare occasions, these bacteria can cause other severe life threatening diseases.
4. These bacteria are spread through direct contact with mucus from the noe or throat of persons who are infected or through contact with infected wounds or sores on the skin.
5. Treating an infected person with an antibiotic for 24 hours or longer eliminates their ability to spread the bacteria.
6. Symptoms can range from symptoms of no illness to mild illness, such as strep throat or a skin infection. to severe life threatening illness such as necrotizing facilitis.
7. Necrotizing Faciliitis occurs when bacteria get into parts of the body where bacteria are not usually found, such as the blood, muscle, or the lungs. Thee infections are termed invasive GAS disease.
8

Although it is very rare for anyone to contract this disease prevention is important. Prevention of necrotizing fasciitis involves good wound care. To clean all minor cuts and injuries that break the skin (such as blisters, and scrapes) with soap and water. Clean and cover draining or open wounds with clean, dry bandages until they heal.

A human pathogen is a pathogen, microbe or microorganism such as a virus, bacterium, prion, or fungus, that causes disease in humans. The human defense against common pathogens is mainly the responsibility of the immune system with help by some of the body's normal flora. But if the immune system or good microbiota are damaged in any way, such as chemotherapy, human immunodeficiency virus or antibiotics being taken to 🤬 other pathogens, pathogenic bacteria that were being held at bay can proliferate and cause harm to the host. This is called opportunistic infections.
