He didn't have such a great relationship with his family, as he revealed. He regrets not having treated his family better in the past, and said that all he wanted to do was to apologize. He went into construction with his father at the age of 16, and was payed generously. This changed, however when the late 1990s came around, and the industry changed. He was penniless at this time, and had to rely on free meals. He said that he'd rather work than have to rely on government aid, so he eventually got a job as a hawker assistant.

I think it is the responsibility of those people who are already living comfortably to reach out and help those in our community who need it. Jesus calls me to be in communion with everyone, as we are all brothers and sisters- we should love and accept each other as we are, and not only choose people who we deem as "better". We are all equal in the eyes of God.

I don't think that it was responsibility reciprocal at all. He already had a job that was very tiring, as he had unusual work hours, and he didn't really get to rest on Fridays and weekends. I think that he helped out the other elderly people out of the kindness of his own heart, and that he really didn't expect anything in return. It could be said that it was just responsibility reciprocal, but if it were, then he probably wouldn't have done it frequently. ]]> 2022-05-01 09:41:52 UTC https://padlet.com/mttl/gxdvax061nq0a61n/wish/2165689729 https://padlet.com/mttl/gxdvax061nq0a61n/wish/2172676726 In the video it showed a man who is 85 years old selling ice cream at Sim Lim tower,in the video it also points out that he is a familiar sight around there,The man whos name is Ng Teak Boon has been selling the ice cream not matter if it rained or not and has been doing it for 10 years,After he is done for the day he goes to the berseh food centre to meet with his friend who is a  hawker there.In the video it shows that the hawker saw that he was lonley and had no friends so they decided to talk to him and become friends with him,they would crack jokes talk or sometimes scold him,as they met over a year ago they had become more than just friends,the hawker which is named mdm chia would help him read the lettars he gets from the town coucil and hdb.When  when he was ill and had leg pains she brought him to see the doctor and when she found out his head was bleeding he said that he didnt have a pillow or mattress to sleep on so he would hit his head when he sleeps on the floor,Mdm chia asked him to buy a mattress so he wouldent get his legs cold,Mr ng lives in a one flat room while not having a light source from within the house and the reason was found out to be that the circuit breaker had been mysteriously shut off.He gets $750 from the goverments silver support scheme, Mr Ng also has also not been paying his bills due to the fact that his roommate who has gone missing 2 months ago was helping him do that,Mr ng had lost contact with his wife and 5 children.Some people have offered him help he declined the help,Mr ng also hopes to reach the age of 106.
a)I think that she went above her social responsibility as it was shown that he was lonely showing that no other hawker within that food centre provided the same help she did,I consider someone who does their duty in society(which is someone who helps someone in need does the right thing ) suffiecent.although going above the societal obligations is not needed i still think it is appealing to people
b)i think the goverement may be responsible for citizens job,education and other needs people are still responsible for their own well being and how they act in public

The narrative 'beggars can't be choosers' is a depiction where someone should be satisfied with whatever they get even if its not what they wanted. I personally agree with this narrative, if someone is willing to reach their hand out to help you, you have no right to get personal satisfaction. 

b. I disagree that more can be done to provide those who need social assistance with better options if everyone was treated equally. This means that everyone would be in the same boat. Thus, what is the point of helping someone else? The fact that a person's dignity has been stripped leads to people being sympathetic and giving a helping hand.

c. I believe that food wastage is the main problem in Singapore instead of food shortage. Their are products that frequently come from suppliers like Malaysia. For the first example there was a girl whose father worked as a security guard. She gets one meal in school for free. However after school, she has no lunch to eat and she survives mainly on gummies, biscuits and potato chips. Which is extremely unhealthy. The second instance is about a family where the parents had contracted illnessses causing the parents to be unable to work. This forced the boy who was then only 12 years old to work as a cleaner. They mostly ate instant noodles and sometimes rice with water a nd salt. The third instance was when a men had to eat instant noodles for many years. After eating the same food over and over again h got sick and tired of it and felt like not eating anymore. The last instance was one a family ate very low in nutritient food. If they eat eating things like wedges, hash browns and other fried food, they could develop diseases lie diabetes. in the second video it also showed that people took food for granted and were receiving so much food that they ended up wasting lots of food.

a) No I do not agree with the narrative that beggars can't be choosers as they should be given more chances to say what meets their needs. If too much food is given to them a lot of food which can be used to help other less fortunate people will go to waste.
b)Yes I do think better options should be given to people who need more assistance. This is because if the food that is provided is not what they want or it is too much, it will end up going to waste. Instead they should listen to the feedback of the people and provide the right amount of food. Any excessive amount would end up going to waste. 
c) I think the issues between food  wastage and food shortage is very absurd. For this topic we are talking we are talking about a very specific range of people who do not have the money to afford nutritional food. However while many people will get food to eat, they receive so much food that they end up having to waste food. To meaningfully provide options for the poor and vulnerable in society means to see in their perspective genuinely understanding how they feel and thus proving them with options. To do it meaningfully means to do it with a purpose and a good anticipated outcome.Such that providing them with these options will benefit the poor and vulnerable and bring a change to their lives. I feel that if something along the lines of this isn’t what they’re hoping for then its not really meaningful anymore. You would do it because you empathise with them simply because of sympathy. You would try to imagine life in their shoes and if you then understand to some extent how they feel, you would do your very best to provide them with options.

I do believe that options should be provided beyond basic survival needs as everyone as access to options when they able bodied and in control however its harder to access options for yourself when you are no longer able bodied and in control. Without these option really what else is there that will keep you sane. Thus , I feel that options should be provided beyond basic survival needs.

 I think having options is more of a need in my opinion as when you are young you are able to have social interaction on your own, without needing the assistance of others. Similarly when you age you would also want to the same , however when you reach the stage in which you do need assistance than you should be given access to social interaction, the same was it was not restricted during your youth.

It shows how people are following their passion, well, in this case, it is about a man who love making ice cream. The man makes ice cream and usually is seen at Sim Lim tower. Even though he is 85 years old, he still needs to bring his ice cream cart along, which was quite heavy. However, he got used to bringing it with him. The video also shows how he made friends with other people, like the hawkers at the Berseh Food Centre. The hawkers saw him quite lonely so they start befriending him. They are more than just friends. You can say that they are best friends. The man also replied to the interviewer that he can live until 106 years old, live longer than Lee Kwan Yew. But until then, he will continue to sell ice cream.
