I am an urban hydroponic gardener. In my tiny condo, I grow cauliflowers, cucumbers, tomatoes, kale, chard, herbs, celeri, spinach, peppers, etc. I pollinate all of my plants since they are indoors. I'm learning so much about plants and agriculture by trial and error.

One of my happy places is in the kitchen... I love baking, cooking, and hosting friends and family. It gives me such tremendous joy when someone asks for seconds!!! In particular, I like to "bake a milktart, fudge, rusks, and other traditional South African meals" - the prompt I fed to AI.

Monday evening is band practice. That’s my time. It’s fun, frustrating, and social.

It’s fun because it challenges me.

It’s frustration because I need to carve out time from an already busy schedule to practice daily.

It’s social because my fellow band mates are great colleagues who make me laugh at myself. Each day I look forward to blowing my horn.

As for being specific, I confused the Bot by calling my clarinet a horn. First lesson learned. Consistency of terms.

I am happiest when I have a fishing pole in my hand whether it's on the boat in the summer or in a portable ice hut during the winter. Fishing gives me time to reconnect with my family, myself and nature. I come from a family of storytellers, and I can't think of a better way to keep this tradition going (even if the story is a little exaggerated).

I keep a daily journal with three components. First, I list the essential activities accomplished. Those are the commitments that resonate with a “Hell, yes.” Two are family and electoral reform. Second is the things I’m grateful for. Third is a virtues reflection from my pack of Virtues Project set of cards.

In the last year or so I have started woodworking, when I have time between work and family! I have a huge list of projects that I want to take on and a few that are half complete! So far I have a double bed, swings for my kids that when finished will be a play structure (hopefully with a slide!), a coffee table and half finished porch swing. This is time to myself, where I can listen to music and have a little peace.

My favourite thing to do is to build Zentangles - a method to personalize beautiful images with quotes and structured patterns. The border around the landscape and the skyscape are examples of Zentangles. Each of the squiggles have a repeating pattern that starts by connecting dots with lines or arcs. This example would be completed over a week or a month. Most days I feel overwhelmed by the amount of information coming my way. Being still with an image and a short quote for 15 minutes while I Zentangle relaxes my body, refreshes my mind, and shows my work-in-progress. When the artifact is complete, I reflect on the choices I made along the way and do an Artist Statement.

One of the hobbies I have been doing since my teens is cross-stitch. I recently completed a pattern called Angel of Grace that took me 3.5 years to complete. I gifted it to my parents for their 50th wedding anniversary. I have completed 3 of these large projects over the years and find it gives me a sense of accomplishment. I surprised myself by joining a team sport and loving it. I joined the Fort Langley Canoe Club and for six months of the year I paddle with a dragon boat team. During the Fall/Winter I am on an Outrigger Canoe team. It's lots of fun and keeps me active. This picture does not look much like my team and my boat - I tried many different ways to describe what I do and this is the best of what I got - Interesting experience using AI!

Family is my number one value. I am 'Mormor' to our beautiful little 2 year old granddaughter Addison Mia Rose. Our little Addie has taught me to slow down and take in the beauty that I am surrounded by. I absolutely love watching her learn, play and be amazed at the smallest things. Those small things are big things to her. She brings me back to a learners mindset which is truly magical. I cherish every moment that I get to spend with her and make time to ensure that I do. We don't get those moments back.

I love to meal prep and make meals with as many veggies as I can. This was fueled by excellent success with my garden last summer- providing me with fresh seasonal veggies all throughout the summer. I am already planning my garden for next summer and thinking on how I can expand my growing space, and dreaming of the meals I will make when I have access to more vegetables. I find both hobbies relaxing and a great way to unwind at the end of the day. Planting and caring for a garden is also a great way to get me outside.

I love nature, being outside, as much as possible especially in, on or around water; I kayak a lot in summer. I also used to do freefall skydiving; I think that's possibly my greatest love - apart from my daughter, of course! I used to get into trouble at the parachute club for being too happy to jump out of the plane and not focussed enough on safety, still here to tell the tale, though ;)

In the last few years I have been trying to learn how to maintain my home. I enjoy starting little projects within my home that I can DIY. I have restained some cabinets, painted, and learned how to repair minor issues around the house. I am not an expert by any means but I enjoy searching the internet for tips and trialing things. If all else fails, crazy glue is my best friend. My goal is to continue to gain independence with home improvement and start to add design to my home.

One of my favorite hobbies is x-country skiing. I love the fresh air and the pace in which I can travel. I can feel my heart, my breath and a connection to the land all at the same time. I find the white snow peaceful. I feel connected when I am on my x-country skis.

I am an avid scrapbooker. It is a great hooby because as you make creative and decorative pages for your photographs, and journal the events they record, you are visiting with the loved ones in the photos again. I am also very luckt my daughters' ad their families have moved here so I now have fun with grandaughters wanting to learn.
