In middle school, I don't recall a lot of the books we read. Probably because during that time I was very uninterested in books and literacy. Well, except for the Diary of a Wimpy Kid Series. I read this series on my own for fun during middle school because they were good books. If we were reading a book that I found interesting then I would be engaged and enjoy reading.

Lastly, reading the speeches and essays of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. helped me learn about the power of literacy. The way he formats his speeches and diction so that it is receivable to multiple different audiences. The way that he can say something without actually saying it. This made me want to read more of his work. "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere" - One of my favorite quotes by him!
