Pro: the U.S. gets more oil. Cons: it goes through the sacred land of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and it could contaminate their water sources if the pipeline breaks. 

There are other ways to get oil that won't effect the Standing Rock Tribe. The pipeline can either be moved (which is actually what the Department of the Army is currently planning on doing) or it can be transported some other way (like by truck).
