I think the author is telling us that being ten is the age when you stop imagining things. It is the age when you become more grown up and mature. You know a lot about the wold and it takes some of the fun out of it. Turning double digits is a big deal for kids.

I think the authors message was to tell people to not to grow up until you need to. because some people think they need to grow up at such a young age. Try to stay young and have fun and have a big imagination. No one is telling you to grow up so stay young or at least stay happy and have a big imagination because he rather see a world full of fun smart and creative kids around then a ton of old grumpy people. This poem is a good message and reminder to stay happy and keep your imagination alive. Ten is the age where you should machure but being machure doesn't mean you have to leave the fun in the past.

I think the authors is teaching us that as you get older life gets harder. For the character in the poem turning 10 is hard and life has changed. It is not the same as when you were little and in the poem the character had so many fun adventures when he was little so being older was hard.

I think the authors message in the poem 'On Turning Ten' is that the kid in the poem is turning the big two digit ten. He has to give up his marination and kiddish ways and act more like a teenager than a kid. He also has to grow up. So the authors message is that when you get older you have to grow up because you are no a kid anymore

The poem 'On Turning Ten' was about more than just turning ten. It was about how growing up feels, and when you have to let go of things. It mentions, "It is time to say good-bye to my to my imaginary friends," and, "And my bicycle never leaned against the garage as it does today", meaning that the author gave up on those things. And when you fall, you don't shine, but bleed, and the world is filled with harder things than what they believed before. How, when you're older, you have to deal with sadness, and anger, and that things aren't as perfect as you once thought they were. As an adult, you can never go back, and you're forced to face your problems, rather than running away.

I think the author was trying to tell everyone that getting old is something that can sometimes make you feel sad and that it makes feel like you can't be what you used to be. You can' t go back to the young life you loved. You miss the things that you used to be able to do. The things you imagined, and old friends you used to love. You felt like you could travel the world, now you feel like you could study the world.( That's not a bad thing.) Good things can come out of this though! Getting older opens up new opportunities! Now you CAN travel the world! Growing up can lower opportunities, though. Like having fun

I think the authors message is to think on the bright side because the ten year old didn't think of the good things of being ten and instead of thinking of youth as bad remember all the good things like becoming spelling bee champion of your school not that you lost because of a random word that shouldn't been in the competition. The boy thinks of turning ten as bad and maybe he should've thought of all the good things that happens when you turn ten like people will trust you more when your ten then when your seven or four. So when your older you should look at the bright side of youth not all the bad things that happend but the good things that made life interesting and exciting not boring.

I think the poem is telling that he wants to move on with his life and he does not what to at all even becuse he has to and he is just really sad that when you get older you can not always do the same things that you would do when you would do when you are yonger.

I think the author's message in this poem is to show adults and children what it is like to turn ten. To know that you will never be 1 or 7 again. Aging means you do not get to go back. The author shows this to me by saying that it feels like he is getting sick. He says what he did when he was younger, the games he played, what he imagined. Billy Collins also sites that he said when he was younger he felt that he would shine, but now he bleeds. He says what it is like to age, to be able to go back and feel what he felt. Nothing is as simple as it used to be. I think the poet is telling us to appreciate and treasure the time we had as we were young. The author also states that he must say goodbye to his old imaginary friends, as if he has to leave the past behind and grow up, leaving everything childish behind. I personally understand this. If you leave your childish ways and everything you were as a child, you can't live it again.

You start to not be as happy as you were and the homework gets harder and your life isn't as happy as it used to be. There could be more problems in your family like divorce, moving schools, moving states, and you have problems with your friends. You could be getting bullied or you just don't do good in school.
