A difficult time for a young man with Autism. His parents need to supervise him 24-7. They are unable to go out as a family which put pressure on the family. Did you know that there is a mass of paperwork to complete and we have little say in what happens. They noted at one point that he was suitable as he wasn't into team d- really. Not all the activities were accessible for example an all day session at the bowling alley.
What would help!
Clear information about short breaks with a support worker
Support for siblings - time to meet other siblings
Inviting parents/carers to suggest suitable activities
To ensure that paperwork is manageable or some support to fill it in?
Professionals are aware of the wide range of need
To personalise the activities around individual needs and support with volunteers who have a good induction to SEND
Professionals to understand the stress that families are are under during the summer and the emotional stress it can cause
