Who Are Alternate Assessments For?

Alternate assessments are for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities whose disability significantly impacts their intellectual functioning and adaptive behavior supported with IEP Eligibility and IEP documentation. Participation in alternate assessments is determined by the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team as the appropriate assessments for the student to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.

RISE Braille Overview

RISE assessments are adaptive and braille is printed on site under the accommodation Print on Request.
Steps to administering braille:
1. Submit the Braille Accommodation Request Form to Emily Engh (emily.engh@schools.utah.gov) and Jessica Wilhelm (jessica.wilhelm@schools.utah.gov)
2. Check out a USBE embosser from the ERC. Emily will help set this up upon receiving the braille request form.
3. Download the Tiger Designer software that Emily will provide upon receiving the braille request form.
4. Access RISE braille resources for guidance on embossing RISE PRN and BRF files.
5. Practice embossing files through the RISE training tests.

UTIPS is a formative assessment tool provided to all Utah K-12 educators for use in any subject area (e.g. Career and Technical Education (CTE), Social Studies, Health Education, etc.) at any grade level. you can find your District/Charter School specific link here https://docs.google.com/document/d/1H-tLBGVlDiULJwvw1KvdkmhAqNRYadQtQOFJRGAGmmY/edit?tab=t.0

Educators can use the UTIPS tool to write their own assessment items to assign to their students in a variety of formats including multiple-choice, multi-select, hot text, matching, and short-answer questions. An equation editor is provided for teachers and students. Automated scoring is available for all item types except writing. Assessments can be shared across classrooms, schools, and across Utah. Reports have been updated and provide detailed results that can be used to inform instruction and to assist students in setting learning goals.
