    Short messages using morse code could be sent quickly and was first used on the railways to communicate instructions to drivers and stations. As the system was adopted across the Britain railway network it was possible to have a universal time.

    Revolution of communication since messages could be sent over long distance, news of events spread quicker than previously when letters had to be transported by train.

    Also useful for the police to alert fellow officers.
