Name: Millie Mcquaid

What I've learned from this interview was from how different their culture is from ours. When you think about England you automatically think that there will be many wonderful things to do, this isn't the case. Millie told me that there's rarely anything to do you mostly go out to pubs play soccer or go to a soccer game. Queen Elizabeth, you think authority, right? Wrong. When I asked about the royal family I was told that it was mostly all for show. They don't have power as they once used to; that's all about the prime minister now. Word phrases are differently. They say things differently from us. For example here you say pants over there you say trousers. Many things were said but I think these were the most interesting responses I got.

Non-Fiction Book

So far this book is explaining how slowly the life of a jew is changing. It’s slowly explaining the process of how a jewish life went from good to bad from zero to a hundred. I’m liking it so far as I’m in the part were the Jews are being told that they’re going to a factory to go work but what they don’t know is that it is actually a concentration camp were they will be separated from their families. It’s really sad that they are being fooled like this instead of being told the truth so that they could tell their children goodbye. The part I’m in now is where the german soldiers are taking the jews in the trains. The person is in the train describing their ride. Elie kept on talking about a woman that was separated from her husband and how all this time she’s been screaming that there’s a fire even though there’s not a fire. People on the train are getting tired of having to hear her repeatedly scream fire. They beat her once but after that they stopped because they were all tired, hungry, and had lack of space. So far it’s a good story, it’s just sad having to hear what they’ve been through. The person is currently talking about how they’re experience iss how they’re being treated. He talks about how the time he’s been there he’s seen death everywhere. How many people last hope. It’s sad to read that knowing that right after spending an hour or two there they lost hope. Them thinking that there’s no hope is just sad in general. That light in their eyes disappeared once stepping in the concentration camp. They’ve know moved to another concentration camp called Auschwitz. After a while of being in Auschwitz they were moved to another concentration camp. When they were selecting on who’d go to the other concentration camp call Buchenwald. When they were in Buchenwald Elie suffered from bad health such as his dad. They were only given bread and soup. They were weak, not fed right, beaten and all growing weak. This tragic story starts off with the separation of families right away. Elie was lucky enough to have stayed with his dad the whole journey. Having his dad by him side was his motivation to keep on going, he kept being strong for his dad. This story has been both sad and heartwarming. Stories like these makes us realize not to ever forget the holocaust or something worse can happen in the future. It’s also important to not take the little things for granted.

A Monster Calls

I think this book was such a good book because it really made me feel like it was realistic and not a fantasy book. It was realistic in the way that the things that happen could really happen to us in real life. Also, I like that this book is magic realism because if it was a fantasy book they would have made a magic potion to save the mother from dying. Also, I really like how this book actually had a big meaning to it which made it really nice even though it was a sad book. So the fact that this book was just so good and I liked how he always wondered to himself why the monster came at 12:07 am. It has a really deep meaning but what I didn't like is that the monster blamed it on him about letting his mom go in the 4th tale of the monster's stories. But other than that this story I would really recommend to all of those people who like magic realistic stories and how they are plotted during the entire beginning of the story and the way they have the climax. So I recommend this book to some of my friend which have also started to like it like me. It is also such a great experience connecting with my friends that were in my Europe group because we could really relate to this book. The biggest thing about this is that it was a story that I could relate to since my brother had cancer but thankful he survived. But yeah sometimes God puts obstacles in our life to test our strength which is what he did in the book A Monster Calls. Such a great story I honestly do recommend it to all of you.

A topic I'd like to learn more is if the news uses "yellow journalism" instead of really telling it how it is. We may be told lies for all we know. How people rebuild their lives after conflict is by leaving and starting somewhere else. It's hard to say new depending on what you may have experienced or seen.

Producing my website was easy and a good thing as we chose to set it differently from others. When we had to work with a partner it was a challenge since we wouldn't post it when it was exactly due but when it came to group work and doing it individually it worked. I did like working on it as it felt complete, by this I mean that because we had such a big book it felt good to have done this website because it feels like it's book report. I think that my website is captivating because of how I designed it on the top part were the images were shown. I think it was successful analyzing the story as we talked from when Anna went to Paris without consent hating the idea to how she ended up loving it and finding herself a boyfriend after her crush on Toph. I made sure to have gotten every part and I think I did a good job on how it was organized and how the website was built. This book matters to me because it shows you how someone can change you and make you feel so loved yet hurt you at the same time but then it shows hos special someone can mean to you as for you to say that they are your home and not what you once believed in. I think it'd matter to people around me so that they can see how some characters struggled with themselves and their families. This book might matter to the world because it talks about real life problems but then again it talks about young love and how innocent it is yet difficult to maintain without wanting to hurt someone else along the way.

I liked this cultural exchange project. We got to learn about new things about which country we wanted to about our world region. I learned that although I get nervous I'll end up doing well when presenting no matter how long the presentation is. What I learned about my group is that we succeeded even if we'd get noisy from here and there as for what I learned about the community and the world is that they're willing to listen depending on how you speak and lift yourself; showing that you are confident is key to have eyes and ears on you. I don't think I;d do anything differently besides having a little more faith on myself. How I felt before the project was anxious on not knowing what exactly to have and during and after is relieved from knowing then what it is what I had put. I was nervous at first but once I started presenting it all went away and felt confident in what I talked about. I have learned about France, Italy, and WW2 during this whole project; thing's I had not known about. The one thing I'd do differently is the poem since it wasn't as brought to life as we wanted it to be. Overall it was a great experience to show how responsible we can be an show how well we are to present to many at once and having us memorize information.
Why this project might matter to me is so that I could be more informed about other regions of the world other than mine. Why this project might matter to the people around me and the world is to get a little more inside of what there is to hear or see about other than their country/continent.
