Propaganda

Not so subliminal messaging/transference can be found in this photo. Mixed in with the candy are needles and insulin. This causes the viewer to make the association of candy-diabetes and persuade them to believe the argument that eating candy leads to developing diabetes. This is an example of propaganda because although too much consumption of sugar can lead to diabetes there are many other factors, and the "too much" is not implied here.

Persuasion

This is my attempt at a persuasive photograph. Here the sugar amount is the same found in the chocolate displayed. However with the angle of view/placement I am trying to convey a "mountain" of sugar and how unhealthy candy is. This can be considered persuasive as it uses a real fact but blends it with the emotional evocation of a "giant sugar mountain".

Semiotics photo. Here the squirrel is foraging/scavenging amongst construction materials being used to build a new house. What was once home for the squirrel, a forest of trees, has now become lumber. Where is the squirrel meant to go? How many countless homes to native species have been destroyed to build just one home to house one family of humans? This photo has us reflect on what a "home" truly means and what we are doing to our collective home, mother earth. On another note, it represents the inherent selfishness of humans. Where one house will stand and will most likely house only one family (perhaps 5 people?), a larger communal structure could be built to house many people at once - just as the forest once did for the animals there.
