Q1: How did she impact other women wanting to work in the industry?

A1: She impacted women by being their role model. Most women, especially women of color, were scared to ask their boss or apply for a job other than what is expected of them to do. What they were expected to do was sit in a chair and file paperwork. Katherine showed them if you belive in yourself, and work hard, and have courage, you can make it one day.

Q2: Why did Katherine want to work for NASA?
A2: Katherine wanted to work there simply because she was aware of her skill level in math, and it was her dream to use that skill for a job one day.
Q3: What caused Katherine’s success?
A3: She had to work very hard to get noticed by her boss, have courage against racist people who belived she didn’t have anything to offer, and she believed in what she could do.

The Impact She Had

She impacted the NASA work industry for women and people of color with her persistence and amazing performance of math. A way that she affected NASA’s work industry, is that back in the 1900s, there would be all white people working there, and the women’s jobs there were to do paperwork. Katherine wanted to do math, it had been a passion from when she was a child. She showed her boss her skill, and he was amazed. She began doing math there for the spacecraft and other things like that. If you were to visit that part of the NASA industry in today’s world, you would see a variety of people of color, and white people. And the women there wouldn’t only be doing paperwork, they would also be doing math and coding and stuff like that.

I can analyze complex issues like sexism and racism in the story of Katherine Johnson. I analyze information to make sure it is reliable, like when we used CRAAP tests.

I collect evidence for my statements to make sure 1. everything makes sense, and 2. so that I have something to back up what I’m saying in case someone were to challenge my information.
