         <description><![CDATA[<div>Scientific Argument<br>The purpose of my experiment was to determine what ratio of baking soda to vinegar that would allow a rocket to launch into the air at the highest possible height. Through my experiment, I found that, in most scenarios, the more vinegar added to the baking soda, the higher the rocket would launch, but you need to make sure that the amount of vinegar you add does not overpower the amount of baking soda. So, for 7 tablespoons of baking soda, 14 tablespoons of vinegar allowed it to launch at the quickest speed, meaning there was more force behind the launch, also meaning that it shot the highest. But, once 20 tablespoons of vinegar was tested on the 7 tablespoons of baking soda, I was able to come to the conclusion that a ratio of 20 to 7 and too overpowering, and so the rocket began launching at a slower speed, meaning there was less force behind the launch, also meaning that the height it reaches was lower. All of this data that I collected through my experiment did not support my hypothesis. For reference, my hypothesis was that “the rocket will launch the highest distance into the air when a smaller amount of vinegar in mixed with 7 tablespoon of baking soda because the less vinegar that is present in the rocket, the more room there is for the carbon dioxide that is produced as a result of it, and therefore will push the rocket with more force, allowing it to take off higher.” This was wrong because my data shows that the more vinegar I continue to add to the baking soda, the less time it took for the launched rocket to meet the 5 feet mark, meaning the substance allowed for more force to push the rocket to a higher distance. In my hypothesis, I thought that the more excess room there was in the bottle for carbon dioxide, the more force the rocket would use to launch. Instead, I discovered that the less excess room there is in the bottle, the less room the reaction of the baking soda and vinegar has to spread out to, meaning more tension and force will build up inside the rocket quicker, leading to a quicker takeoff. Through the analysis of my data, one claim that I realized it supported was that a 2 to 1 ratio of vinegar to baking soda allowed for the highest launch of the rocket. In this sense, the more vinegar that was added, the higher the launch of the rocket. But, any ratio of vinegar to baking soda that exceeded 2 to 1 became too unbalanced, and the amount of vinegar overpowered the amount of baking soda, thus not allowing for the highest possible launch of the rocket. As stated before, I found that 14 tablespoons of vinegar to 7 tablespoons of baking soda allowed for the quickest time recorded, but 20 tablespoons of vinegar to 7 tablespoons of baking soda increased the time it took to reach 5 feet, so this ratio was not as effective. My conclusion does make sense according to my understanding of the concept, because I know that the greater amount of reactants used for an experiment, the greater amount of product you will receive. As I continued to add more reactant (vinegar) to my experiment, the more product (or force used to explode the rocket) was present. One limitation of my experiment that doesn't allow for the complete and thorough discovery of my concept is that I chose the number of tablespoons of vinegar I mixed with the baking soda in intervals. As an example, I used numbers like 7, 10, 14, 20 and 24 instead of numbers like 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18. Through my data, I discovered that 14 tablespoons of vinegar allowed for the quickest launch, and 20 tablespoons of vinegar allowed for a slightly delayed launch. If I had used 15, 16, 17, 18 or 19 tablespoons of vinegar, I think I could’ve gotten more accurate results, and possibly found a number of tablespoons that allowed for the quickest launch that wasn’t 14. Another way my experiment is limiting is that I had virtually no control over outside factors, such as the weather it was outside, or how hot the ground where the rocket was being placed on. These things could have some sort of impact on the way the baking soda and vinegar combined, or generally just reacted, and I wouldn't necessarily know. All of these limitations considered, I generally found that a 2 to 1 ratio of vinegar to baking soda allowed for the quickest, highest and most forceful takeoff of the rocket.&nbsp;<br><br>Further Research<br>If I were able to analyze more data in regards to my experiment, I think I’d analyze the way the substance of baking soda and vinegar would react if I added the baking soda to the vinegar, instead of the vinegar to the baking soda. I’d researched that the reaction of adding baking soda to vinegar is slower than adding vinegar to baking soda, so I’d like to see how that delayed reaction has an impact on how quickly the rocket can be launched. I’d also like to see if a 2 to 1 ratio of baking soda and vinegar would allow for the quickest and highest launch, and the 2 to 1 ratio of vinegar to baking soda allowed for the quickest launch when the independent variable was the amount of vinegar. In addition to this, there are also just some general questions that this data, as well as my previous data, makes me want to ask. As an example, one testable question I’d like to research and analyze is “Does a 2 to 1 ratio of baking soda and vinegar allow for the quickest reaction times when the baking soda is being added to a constant of 7 tablespoons of vinegar?” Another testable question I’d like to further analyze is “What elements of baking soda allow it to have a slower reaction when added to vinegar as opposed to vice versa?” If I were to make an experiment out of this question, it’d probably be a lot more extensive, because I’d have to research all of the elements that make up baking soda, as well as vinegar, and see which ones slow down or speed up the reaction process and the force of it. I’d possibly have to remove ingredients from baking soda or vinegar, which is probably challenging and tedious to do.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
