Plastics are strong, but may have poor stiffness. Its durability and surface hardness are sufficient which helps it to not go under plastic deformations. Because of its chemical resistance, many plastics are resistant to corrosion. Even though plastic can be easy to work with, its ductility is very low.
http://civilblog.org/2015/07/09/10-general-properties-of-plastic-as-a-construction-material/

Stainless Steel has a high resistance to corrosion and is more attractive in its appearance. It has a higher ductility and by cold working it, a higher strength can be achieved. Even at hotter temperatures, stainless steel retains high strength.
https://www.azom.com/article.aspx?ArticleID=2873

It has low tensile strength, but its compressive strength is high. It has a high resistance to deformation as well.
https://sciencestruck.com/properties-of-cast-iron

Ceramics have high hardness and temperature strength. The ductility is very low, but corrosion and wear resistance is high. Their melting temperatures are very high as well. This material will break before any deformations because of its poor toughness. http://ceramics.org/learn-about-ceramics/structure-and-properties-of-ceramics

Hot working is when the plastic deformation of metal is carried out above recrystallization temperature. When an object is hot worked, it gains ductility which makes it easier for deformation. Because of recrystallization, the new strain-free crystals make for better mechanical properties. The material becomes uniform throughout and the overall tensile strength and fatigue strength increase. A reason to hot work could be because of how its lack of strain hardening makes deformation easier. http://marinenotes.blogspot.com/2012/10/cold-working-and-hot-working-of-metals.html

Cold working is when deformation is done below the recrystallization temperature. Even though heavier and more powerful equipment is required, with cold working you are able to obtain better control resulting in a better surface finish. Internal and residual stress is produced and its low ductility can raise the rick of cracks. A reason to cold work could be to create a better surface finish, and have better reproducibility and interchangeability.
http://marinenotes.blogspot.com/2012/10/cold-working-and-hot-working-of-metals.html
