#2: I don't recommend this book because I don't think that the concept is original. It's a book presenting a Utopian society where there's someone realizing that it's weird and rebelling. There's a lot of books that are similar, by example "the giver". I also feel like this book is trying to show us that beauty is overvalued, by example when Tally learn about the secret of the operation and realize that being pretty doesn't matter. I think that this topic is no longer of actuality in 2019. In our society, if you're taking care of yourself and look respectable, you will be accepted, beauty really doesn't matter that much. The world that the author created is very well done, the cities have their own culture and the characters their own slang, but in general, the story of this book didn't catch my attention.

#2 -Tally vs herself
She doesn't accept herself, she really wants to change herself and become a pretty but she also knows that it's not necessarily the right thing to do, considering the way she sees Peris acting after the operation, as well as what Shae and David tell her about it.

-Shay vs society
Shay simply sees the society, with their way to divide people and the expectation to want to become pretty as extremely wrong and controlling. She becomes friends with misfits who decide to run away, and it makes her want to. She also tries to spread the word to someone she thinks is important and smart, Tally. Shay simply does not want to be part of a shallow society that's built on self hatred to control the masses. Society obviously has something against Shay as well, they are trying to track her down to keep her from running away.

#1 What I liked and disliked about the third part
I liked that there wasn't an actual resolution at the end of the novel, it was obviously so that the readers want to read the other books of the series. I also really liked the part where we learn more abot the end of the Rusties, beause our current society is what they call the Rusties, so I think it's interesting to read about a way that we could all perish.
I didn't really enjoy that Tally volunteered to go through the operation to find the cure, I think that after all the hard interior conflicts that she went through throughout the entire book, especially the first part, it was a big step backwards for her. But I also think that she was courageous for doing that.

2- My least favorite character would be Dr, Cable, because she doesn’t care about other’s feelings, and all she cares about is being sure that every citizen is kept under control to keep the population under the government’s control. For example, when she sends tally to go find shay along with a tracker so that they can find shay. At that moment they discover the smoke and they send people to get rid of them. Shay and david managed to escaped which was good. We can kind of see Dr. cable as a manipulative demon. In horror movies, we see demons hearing, seeing, amd controlling whatever amd whoever they want. It shows that she knows she have power, she knows what she can do with it and she abuses of that power, that confidence and the fact that everyone is submitted to the pretty surgery, because they don't want to stay ugly. This is where the controlling part comes in. She controls whoever she wants by using the surgery as a gift if they listen, even tho it was still promised to them for nothing before. I see her as a demon because she literally gets in people's head to get what she wants.

1- Last night, a group of terrorist has been neutralized. Our forces went to see what was going on, and they decided to rebel against us. We were obligated to use bigger force. Many of them ran away through the forest, so be on the lookout. We will update as soon as possible, and we will try to gatter every single person from this group, known as the smoke. They have been trying to bring down our communitys and the pretty people. They were just rebels, no one really imported in the functionality of our population. Everyone must be on guard for them, they could be anywhere. They will want to get im your head and convince you to go with them by telling you all sorts of lies. It's not worth it, you all are amazing and better than a terrorist group, so stay you and stay safe!

2- After many years, the organization that has been stealing lives is going down. The special circumstance used all their power to make sure that no one would have the life they wanted, by keeping them in restricted areas, and in exchange they would go through a surgery that would make them pretty. Some people realized what was going on and tried to put a stop to it. We have been through many sacrifices, many deaths, we have lost many of our people. They've tried to get us in all the possible ways, and sometimes they succeeded. Sometimes we wanted to give up, but that's not the point of life so we held on. And look wjere that has brought us! We can finally stand up and scream that we did it! I can finally write this article that i had so dreamed of! We can be free and happy.

Appearance: Appearance was a very important theme of the novel, because people were literally separated according to the way they look. Uglies were together until they turned to the age of 16, then they would go through a surgery making them pretty. After this surgery, they would be able to go live with the pretty people, a eutopic city.

Quote: ‘’Of course, Tally was nothing here. Worse, she was ugly. But she hoped Peris wouldn’t see it that way. Wouldn’t see her that way.’’

It is something that is made a priority to the citizen. It's been made one the first things ti consider for everyone because if you aren't pretty you can't succeed. I believe the author of the book was trying to generalize the problem today, as of beauty standards and expectations are way too high.
Quote: "Your physical appearance should be a plus not your whole package"

2. Conformity: it played a great deal in Tally’s life, because she saw everyone going pretty, including her best friend perri, she wanted to do the same, and so did everyone around her. As opposed to this point of view, some people wanted to do the opposite and were completely against it. The smoke was a group of rebel people against the way the system works, and it was a way for them to be their own person.

Quote: ‘’Perhaps the logical conclusion of everyone looking the same is everyone thinking the same.’’

The point of a stable and well working society is the diversity of it. If everyone looks the same, thinks the same and act the same, how do you expect to have a well balanced working society? Everyone needs to do their part in a society, each individual needs to bring its own little seed of personality. Conformity makes this impossible.

what wouldve happened if tally went to find shay without the tracking device?

i think that tally would've realized how much better life is with them, and she would've had such an extended view on the pretty issues tha tmaybe she would've decided to stay there forever, and she would've been able to if specila curcumstances hadn't done what they did. it wouldn't have causes so much damage to so many innocent people, who were just trying to save the community.

My favorite character is David, because he's someone who decided to learn a lot about the past of the world he lives in. The way he influences Tally's way of thinking is interesting, not only because she falls in love with him, but I liked how it made such a contrast with the rest of the society. Everyone is either telling Uglies they should turn into Pretties or stay Ugly, but David makes it that being labeled as an Ugly doesn't actually mean you're unattractive.

How is the pretty/ugly system not ethical?

Its not ethical because it is not okay to define beauty or how someone is seen. It's also not ethical because it's steals people's identity, to make them all look the same, think the same and be perceived as the same. The real goal behind this is to control the society in its whole. They don't care about their population's feelings and well being. What's in important, is that they lead, they have the power and they get what they want. The pretty society is a perfect little community who don't even understand what's going on. Everyone's happy, everyone's pretty and that's what counts. As opposed on the ugly side, everyone submitted to the idea of one day being pretty, which they are promised to be. They don't want to stay ugly so they'll do anything to go on the other side, when really it's a way for special Circumstances to have power and control over their mind.

A few days later, Tally decided to go to pretty town. She decided to inform everybody about the fact that the operation to make them become pretty changed them a lot mentally. When she arrived, there was nobody, and everything was in ruins. A feeling of confusion and panic was taking over her, what happened?

Suddenly, she saw a random man running. She started screaming after him -what happened? Where is everybody? The guy saw her and started walking slowly towards her. -Haven’t you heard? He said. A giant bomb fell on the town and killed everyone, there’s a few people that survived but almost everybody is dead.

What do you think would have happened if Tally did the surgery?

Her way of thinking would have changed. There wouldn't be a book because the author would have nothing to say. Tally would pretty much be like her friend Peris, who used to make fun of the pretties with her, saying that they were stupid. They would be partying with the other pretties.

While reading Uglies, I couldn't help but notice that the story was so similar to an episode of The Twilight Zone that I watched a few years back. The episode's title is Eye of The Beholder, and it's about a woman who's getting surgeries to finally look normal. We seem to understand that people who look like her are not accepted in society and they have to live apart from it. On screens are playing some master's words, telling everyone that conformity has its place there and that, before that time, everyone could live together but that wasn't the right way to live. When her bandages come off, we realize that she looks completely normal, and everyone in the hospital has a melted type of face, something we could consider ugly. Seeing hers, they all start screaming because of how horrifying it is for them. A man, who also has an ''ugly and abnormal'' face comes and brings her in a community where people look like her. The separation of the different looking people is similar to Uglies, where pretty and ugly people are seperated, and pretty people choose not to be with Uglies. Also, the title of the episode, The Eye of the Beholder, references something that the delegate uses to bring the lady to go with him. He says that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That message is also the one that David conveys to Tally, telling her that beauty isn't necessarily defined by people in a lab.

How would you describe Tally in 3 words?

To begin, I think that Tally is confident, by example, when she goes to prettytown and pretends to be pretty, even tho she clearly isn't, to confront her friend.

To continue, Tally is selfish. She goes to "the smoke" to find her friend Shay with a tracking device and help the "special circumstances" to get rid of this place so she can get the surgery.

To finish, she is irresponsible, by example when she throw the necklace, which is the tracking device, in the fire even tho the persons that gave it to her told her that it will be activated if she damage it.

Create a new character that would change the story.

When "the special circumstances" give Tally the task to find Shay and "the smoke", they made her traveled with a guy named Robert to make sure that she is safe and does what they ask her to. This would change the story a lot because she wouldn't make real connections with the people of smoke and at the end she would get her surgery and turn pretty.

Special Circumstances employees, or as we realize, their slaves, realize what they did to the Smoke and that it was the open door to a better society. They try to organize a secret society where they get Uglies on their side, all while still working with authorities. They go out whenever possible, bringing more people every time, to rebuild a better and bigger city where people can live happily and without being judged for their appearance. They don't get caught, and some of them live there for generations. omeone in the city tries to take power over the other citizens, and as it works, it gets back to the same exact thing that was going on before, with a superficial hierarchy.

What would you do if this surgery was possible?

In 2019, people extol individualism. I believe that if there was a surgery like this, most people, including me, wouldn't do it and it would be seen as a bad thing if you did. Knowing that it change the way that I think, and that it change my appearance to make me look like everybody else, I definitely wouldn't do it. It would be different if I was living in Tally's society where it is normal to be "pretty". I can't tell for sure, but I would probably do it, unless I know about "the smokes". If I know about this place, then I would probably try to convince my best friends and family to go there with me.
