What is the poet's overall message about life or human nature? Explain.

The poet's overall message about human nature is that sometimes others will have high expectations of you that you won't be able to uphold. In the beginning of the poem the poet describes how the knight is praised and honored, but later can't face the challenge that he thought he could. This relates to how people hold you up to high expectations and it feels like you just aren't good enough when you can't meet them.

What reacurring motif leads you to determine the theme? Why?

The reacurring motif that lead me to determine the theme is fighting. Throughout the entire poem the knight is fighting monsters, and fighting evil. At the end of the poem the knight is faced with a challenge that he can't overcome, just like being met with expectations that you can't achieve.

One example of a metaphor in the poem is, "Once upon a time there was, there was a man Who lived inside me wearing this cold armor," The deeper meaning of this metaphor is that there is confidence and motivation in the poet, and he can feel it.

One example of a simile in the poem is, "Talking like a man who knew the world by heart." The deeper meaning of this simile is that the poet is strong brave and adventurous.
