My name is Pietro Marko Palermo. I'm 26 years old. Regarding Philippine Pop Culture, I like shows with a lot of comedy like It's Showtime and Last One Laughing Ph. Bayani Agbayani is my favorite Filipino comedian. My favorite Filipino movie is General Luna because of its cinematography and writing. My favorite OPM band is 3AM. They are a Davao-based indie band but unfortunately, they disbanded last year. Kubli is my favorite song from them.

Another Philippine pop culture element I would like to feature in my Padlet is Pinoy Komiks. These illustrated stories have been a staple of Filipino culture since the mid-20th century, serving as a platform for storytelling that combines humor, fantasy, and social commentary. Iconic characters like Darna and Panday have become cultural icons, reflecting Filipino values and struggles. Featuring Pinoy Komiks would allow me to explore their historical significance, their impact on Filipino entertainment, and how they continue to inspire modern adaptations in films and television.

Analysis of Pinoy Komiks Through Semiotics

Through the use of symbols and stories that appeal to the Filipino audience, Pinoy Komiks, a type of current Philippine pop culture, has a significant impact on many facets of society. The representation of heroes like Darna and Panday, among other signs and symbols found in Pinoy Komiks, have both denotative and connotative connotations according to semiotics. Justice, bravery, and tenacity are symbolized by these characters' physical portrayal as superheroes. More profoundly, these figures represent the Filipino values of resistance to injustice and bayanihan, or communal cooperation. Readers can relate to the material on an intellectual and emotional level because of its twofold meaning, which promotes patriotism and unity.

Additionally, Pinoy Komiks uses everyday hardships and social issues as a symbolic platform for commentary and social critique. The narratives frequently touch on topics like injustice, poverty, and corruption, which makes readers consider their own experiences in society. By doing this, Pinoy Komiks promotes cultural and socioeconomic transformation by entertaining, educating, and stimulating conversation. This shift in readers' perspectives and consciousness demonstrates how media material has the power to influence opinions and spark important discussions about social change.
