Mushers and a team of 16 dogs, of which at least 5 must be on the towline at the finish line, cover the distance in 8–15 days or more.”



“The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race first ran to Nome in 1973. In the mid 1950's, Jo and Vi Redington were writing letters to bring remembrance to the old Iditarod Trail and it's important historical significance to Alaska's history.”


“Since 1973, the memory of the serum run has lived on in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, which is held each March and is run on some of the same trails beaten by Balto, Togo and dozens of other sled dogs in a furious race against time nearly 90 years ago.Mar 10, 2014 


There are only suppose to be 61 people in the race.


They have to run 1,150miles


There are only suppose to be 14-16 dogs.


In 2013 first place get the money of 69,000$. 


Mitch Seavey was the winner for 2017.


It usually takes 8-15 days.


151 dogs died in the race.
