4.19.18
We have some video testimonials that express excitement! about videoing/listening to students. A coaching cycle started after working with a teacher most of the year, and after a few "failed" attempts at trying to turn it into a cycle. Keri's a checklist queen. :)
3.23.18
Keri loves checklists and creates/finds great ones! :) Annie's checklist hyperdoc is neat-o! Admin/Coaching meetings are beneficial to hear/share trends in the building and to problem-solve toward next steps. A teacher said, "I've never taken data like this before!" when using the Swivl.
2.20.18
We got the Kagan Library Grant! Hilarious rollout is forthcoming...
I have learned a lot about being more explicit when coaching certain teachers, and how differentiating coaching is pivotal to success in coaching cycles.
1/12/2018
Keri and I are working hard to connect teachers to those that have common needs (with or without our initial support). Teachers concerned about MAP have reached out for data-analysis support. Coaching cycles are going well - the checklist is helping me stay focused on the goals.
12/1/17
Kagan is a GO at MD! Thanks to Keri, we have a website for sharing Kagan stories, celebrations, and structures that are being used. A fun raffle encourages staff to share stories.
A rough observation helped me to find ways to grow. (now we'll see how they play out! :)) You're right, Gabby Douglas. You're right.
Two teachers have expressed how excited they are about the work we are doing -> Emotionally compelling and powerful goals!

9/8/17
Hooray for another year with Keri by my side! :) This year is off to a great, busy start, which I'm hoping means we have built a solid foundation for coaching and there is confidence in the program. Teachers do not have many questions around Eureka and seem confident in its use. Kudos to Courtney and Nancy for a great kick-off and beginning of year energy, and continued visible, organized presence.
OCTOBER 6th, 2017
Keri and I have in common: Individual coaching collaborations are spreading to teams! Data is on our minds and is impacting how we help teachers shape their current realities. Clarity in communication procedures/processes has increased responsiveness for coaches/admin.

I started working with 7th Grade ELA on standards-aligned rubric and assessment creation. We have a reoccurring meeting every Friday!

I also began working with the social worker on how to best incorporate CHAMPS into her office. We have met twice already and have a 3rd meeting scheduled next week!

I didn't get lost at all today. Well... I did accidentally go to the 6th grade hallway when I was looking for a science room, but it was a 6th grade science teacher. I noticed really quickly, so I'm not counting it as being lost.

I got into 4 classrooms!

April 19th
I want to thank Stephanie for letting me be a participant in her session this week. I loved it! I have shared one of the strategies talked about in the session with some ELA teachers. I am hoping to work with them on trying it.

March 22
It has been fun to see more people embrace the Breakout EDU. Mandy Yom was inspired after IETC and Tori and I created one for the 6th Grade ELA team based on their class novel of Sherlock Holmes.

Sept.
Replacement Math Breakouts on the first day of school. I also have several teachers wanting to use OTUS this year.
Seesaw is underway in 6th grade social studies and science.
I will be entering into a cycle starting next week!!!

October 6th
I have enjoyed working with 8th grade fitness as they start student journaling around goal setting. They will be using Seesaw to journal and respond to articles around their areas of weakness as determined through the beginning of the year fitness gram testing.

December 1st
I loved that we had 7 teachers presenting at IETC. Also, I am excited to enter into a cycle and SLO with a Math teacher to see a feedback tool in action in the classroom.

January 12
After having a pop in, a teacher came back to me to follow up on some work that we started at the beginning of the year - part of a cycle. I am excited to continue my work with her. Also, there have been a couple of teachers who have said, I am or did book you. You have been on my list for a couple of months now and I finally have time to work on some things. So, I am excited about some potential cycles.

February 20th
I continue to work with the Learning Enrichment teacher on improving her process with her Reading Plus students. After observations, we continue to work on efficient ways to edit PDFs, monitor student work and provide feedback to the students.

The year is off to a strong start! Coaching kick-offs that featured staff sharing how they worked with coaches. The NTICN is providing an opportunity to deepen connections by working with a cohort on a learning topic of the coach's choice. We have a great new member on our team! We may have PD funds to send coaches to the Jim Knight intensive.

10/5/17
I am excited about our upcoming mini-conference. The feedback from staff was positive regarding the choices and focus on SRG. I am nervous about the rubrics session I'll facilitate- mainly will I provide the information they need in a way that is clear and applicable!

12/1/17
After our coffee chats this week, I learned how you are all engaged in various aspects of implementing the coaching cycle! Yesterday at the Year 2 Jim Knight training, several coaches talked about how they are not busy during the holidays...we are, which is a testament to our program and the purposeful partnerships each of you are engaged in. Also- I have had a box of Kagan goodies in my office for over a year. Today I finally gave what remained away and they will go into the hands of teachers. I am so glad!

1/12/18
We finally received our Il Science Assessment scores- they were fantastic! They will be included in the upcoming winter Data Review presentations. I am excited because I think they reflect the hard work of the NGSS Leadership Team the last 5 years, just as the changes we've seen in science teaching and learning do. It was also a valuable reminder to me that patience is called for when implementing new programs.

2/20/2018
As a part of the work the Academics team is engaged in, we are meeting with groups of parents to gather their questions about the new report card to inform the communication tools we publish. Between those groups and the Strategic Planning meetings, the feedback about the new report cards has been positive. Specifically, parents feel that they will have a more clear understanding of what their child is learning about.

3/23/18
Dreams do come true!!! Next year, each individual on the team will have the title "instructional coach." AND this year we have coaches who are located in one building working with staff in other buildings (ex- MC coach helping K teacher with BreakoutEDU)

4/19/18
This year the CIA Blog has featured items from authors other than me! The reception has been so positive, especially around the video shared this week. I am hopeful that this will encourage more staff to share and increase willingness to use video to learn and reflect

May 25, 2018
I have so much to celebrate! I am part of an amazing team of coaches and share a room with one of the best! Stephanie is expertly moving MD into the world of SRG with her extensive knowledge of and experience with the practice. Every move she makes or idea she shares makes me a better instructional coach! The Kagan-ify your classroom movement was a brilliant idea and is going to make a difference in the lives of our students and teachers next year.
April 19, 2018
I am so excited about the Kagan professional library that you guys created. I would describe our books as 'flying off the shelves'. =) It is so nice to be meeting with a teacher and realize we have a brand-new resource, in-house, that can support their goals. From the Second Language book to the grades 2-5 Balanced Literacy books, these materials are in demand. What a great idea!!!

March 23, 2018
I'm so impressed by the impact that Concetta is having. The 5th grade team at Middleton is beginning to use a process that was shown at her instructional strategies mini-conference on goal setting. Originally, I thought the process came from the Rick W. pd they attended. Was I thrilled to be corrected and told that it was a district pd where they learned it. Way to go, Concetta!
I am so proud of the Middleton Madness Book Tournament live streaming event. The kids were practically professionals!

Feb 20, 2018
Everything is going great. I'm thrilled that the PTA approved the Kagan library and Swivl grants. I'm personally excited that I was able to explain the acronym PEERS and use it to narrow down the focus and get closer to a goal. I think everyone here is stupendous, and when I attend the NTICN, that thought is affirmed. I shared the Concetta/Stephanie log template with my small group and they liked it.

January 12, 2018
I would like to celebrate a partnership that Stephanie has been cultivating since she started in the district. Originally, this teacher was difficult. Stephanie was trying to form a relationship with her but based on the teacher's reactions, she felt like everything she tried was wrong. This week, the same teacher showed incredible vulnerability to Stephanie and asked for her help. It has been an incredible process to watch.

December 1, 2017
My mini conference session didn't suck which is an improvement from the last one. =) Our MD Kagan Celebration raffle is next week and, thanks to a recent prize donation, the stories continue to pour in.

October 6, 29017
I want to celebrate the return of Amanda! She has done such a nice job of supporting her teachers even while she was on leave. I was able to attend a meeting with the K team and Amanda, and it was clear how much they trust her and value her guidance and support. We are all lucky to have her back.

September

2nd Grade assessment conversation at B&C was amazing!
From decorating our new room, to rigorous conversations, Stephanie is my hero. =) She does so much to make us both better coaches.

Working with a new staff member. First, went for an easy win by helping her realize that she's implementing the curriculum the way she's "supposed to" and wants to, and helped her get organized. Next on our agenda is working on read-alouds and small group learning. Very excited that I am part of her year-long goal so we will have an ongoing partnership. The small wins in the beginning with organization and boosting her confidence with the curriculum I think have helped build our relationship.

December 1, 2017
Partnership Principles and an amazing teacher! I'm working with a teacher who I feel must know the partnership principles, and that is helping us engage in an ACTUAL COACHING CYCLE (at least as of today!) We both are very excited about it. I'm hoping that I can use the success of this to engage with other teachers. Plus, it's great practice for me, and reinforcement that what Jim Knight describes really does work.

January 12, 2017
Had a couple difficult (for me) conversations about my role with two teams. It's getting easier!

i'm working with a staff member I haven't worked with much in the past, except on tech items. Thank you to Keri who gave me a lead after her last PD, we're going to work on success criteria and assessments for SEL! We meet for a learning meeting on Wednesday. Hoping I can use more of my emerging questioning skills to move things forward and empower her to apply what she already knows to the work we're going to do.

February 20, 2018
@Steph and @Concetta...Alison G saw that I printed one of your Impact Cycle recording templates and thinks it's great! I do, as well. It really helps me keep track of what I'm doing in each cycle. Next step...being open to using it with teachers.

I'm excited to try some new things I learned from feedback I got during a peer observation! Number one on the list: making sure my goal and the teacher's goal for a meeting are the same by asking clarifying questions. Then, not being afraid to make suggestions if that's what the teacher needs. Sometimes I think I try too hard to make questioning the only way I communicate!

March 23, 2018
ANNIE! You have started a phenomenon at Meyer! Breakout EDU in Mandy's room today was amazing! Students were applying their learning, working on teams, and communicating, and didn't even know they were doing work. We have it all on video so we can share it with others, and Mandy and Amy are already taking about wanting to present about primary grade applications at a conference. This demonstrates the power of DIstrict-wide learning, and coaching across buildings. Thanks for getting this started!

April 18, 2018
Video! A Meyer teacher was featured in the CIA Blog (thanks Becky!) and it is a HUGE deal that she was willing to record and share her teaching with the district! I've asked another teacher to share a video (she's agreed) and am going to pilot the C5 with a teacher next week. I'm determined to make video the norm at Meyer. Thank you for the ideas and testimonials you've shared!

10/6-- I really look forward to coming to work because I know I am in such a supportive environment. I have reached out to every member of the team with questions at least once these past 2 weeks and was welcomed with answers, encouragement, and support. I feel so lucky to be surrounded with such positive people. Thank you for being there for me!

It has given me insight on how many actual cycles I'm in and where I'm going next.

1/12-
I'm working on a cycle with a teacher that is going very well. I'm able to work on all of my own goals while helping her meet her goals. It's been great!

2/20
Our Kagan Library Grant went through and the majority of the McC books are here! Annie (Thank you! She walked in while I was organizing and jumped right in!) and I took some time today to organize our current library to get it ready for the new books when they are done being catalogued. Oh! I'm going to an assessment conference this week with Myron Dueck (so dreamy...) and I can't wait!

3/23/18
I've reconnected with a teacher from the beginning of the year who had a goal, but wasn't ready to start it yet. She was ready a couple weeks ago and has began implementation! I'm so proud that she has stuck to her own personal goal of using Writer's Workshop every day!

4/19/18
I've been working on building a relationship with the admin team at McC all year. I feel like Allison and I are sharing more with each other, both personally and professionally, and I'm really excited about that! Annie and I have also been spending time talking about next year and have a lot of ideas to try. I can't wait to see how they turn out.
