         <description><![CDATA[<div>Christoper Columbus arrived in present day Venezuela in 1498 on his third trip of the new world. The first permanent Spanish settlement wasn't made until 1523. Columbus and his men named it Venezuela meaning Little Venice after seeing local  Indian houses.   </div>]]></description>

In 1806 Francisco De Miranda tried to land in Venezuela but it was unsuccessful. soon later Miranda was sent to prison in Spain and ended up dying.</div>]]></description>

By this time Venezuela was ruled by strong military men from Tachira which they were called the Andinos. After Venezuela was let down bu their many rulers they suffered from a British-German-Italian blockade of their coast from 1902-03 and an attack upon their navy in 1909 from Dutch. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In 1973 Venezuela got a new president who is Carlos Andres Perez , Carlos allowed the iron ore industry in 1975 and soon after that the petroleum industry the following year. He allowed these industries after the Arab-Israeli War of 1973, letting Venezuela be known as a founding member of OPEC, soon later they tripled their oil price. They also increased the prices of imports food and luxury items but the economic boom didn't last for very long.</div>]]></description>

By the end of the 1998 election Chavez wanted to write a new constitution and remake Venezuela's democracy to make it better. In December 1999 Venezuela and Venezuelans suffered one of the most deadliest events in their history, a massive rainstorm brought mud slides and flash floods along communities  and mountainous northern coast of Venezuela, thousands of structures were destroyed, thousands ended up dead. </div>]]></description>

As the year went on things in Venezuela got worse toilet paper, milk. and flour became things that were difficult to obtain. Soon after the crime rate grew in Venezuela causing students to protest in the streets later that spread to other cities. pro-government civilian groups had begun responding violently to the protest.  </div>]]></description>
