The motif of power is explored through Politics in the Evil Robot Monkey. In the story, Sly faces the conflict of where he fits in society. Being, "too smart to be with other chimps", he hopes to have enough composure to fit in with society; but ultimately, he is unable to conform and uses his power which puts him back toward being in the group of chimps.

Ethics are shown as hatred constantly when Sly is taken from his clay. For example when Sly hurled something at the school kids. "Sly jumped and then screamed..." He spun and hurled it at the picture window like feces". The motif of following rules and principles is practiced through politics. "When Sly realizes how close he is to abusing Vern he slowly becomes calm but upset. Slys lips drew back in a grimace built of anger and fear. Rage threatened to blind him, but he held on".
