But I believe that Mama was Marguerite's most influential mother figure because she was the one who raised Marguerite the most in her life. When Marguerite and Bailey were thrown in the dirt Mama was the one who picked them back up and helped guide them through life with the help of God and Uncle Willie. Mrs. Flowers was more of a person Marguerite admired because she was the one Maya looked up to, wanted to be and she was also the one who threw Maya her first line. In the book Marguerite talked about how excited she was to have brunch was Bertha and how she made her happy just by being herself. Mother was a figure who messed up a lot in Marguerite's life but at the end of the novel she was able to regain herself and puss through when Marguerite needed her the most.
