When Elie's father became sick Elie had always been there for him especially on page 99 when they were about to take his father away to join the corpses, but Elie remained with his father making sure that he wouldn't be taken away. ELie always brought something for his sick father when he asked even when it wasn't the best for him like on page 111 when the only thing Elie's father wanted was water instead of soup. When Elie's father had died on page 112 this had made a shift in Elie's mind. From then on the only thing that Elie thought of was of food, he felt free of a burden but also like he had nothing. The arts of ELie that died were the parts that are needed to live a happy life, family, love, hope, and happiness. These were replaced with bare simple thoughts, only thoughts of survival nothing sentimental.

On page 115 when Elie looked into the mirror, he did not recognize himself, and this is because he had no light in his eyes, no joy, no happiness, no love. All the happy parts of Elie's life have been snuffed out and all that is left is a body, when Elie looks into his own eyes he sees nothing but emptiness the eyes of a corpse and this is what he has become because of all the heartache and death that has crossed paths with his life, if Elie's father had lived he would of at least been able to recognize a little of his old self, but now Elie doesn't trust God like he had before, to Elie God had betrayed him, to Elie the only part of life left was surviving, not living.

While Ellie's father was sick, Elie did his best to support him, and take care of him. He would watch out for him, give him food. On page 99, when the SS came to take away the dead, Elie was there for his father, and refuse to have them mistakenly take his father way. He would help him out a lot. Like on page 106, when he brought his father a cup of coffee, 110-111 when he gave him water. Watching his father get sick, and finally die on January 29th made him start to lose hope, after all, he said that one of his reasons to live was to be with his father, but after he had died, he said he felt free. He could now only focus on himself, and surviving. But the death of his father affected him deeply. On page 113, it reads "Since my father's death, nothing mattered to me anymore," but now, he had to worrry about himself. But parts of him died. His family life, the one they hadn't before this is gone. Dead. Now, a new part of him as been born. His only need is to survive.

When Elie looks in the mirror, he doesn't see the same person from his home, or the ghetto. He sees a walking corpse. Elie had been through so much. He was stuck in a horrible cattle wagon, placed into a concentration camp, where he last saw his mother and little sister. He was starved, beaten, stripped away from any life he had before. He watched people die, he watched people get hurt. He himself had been beaten. He watched his father get sick and die. The family he had held on to was now dead. His major part of His old life, his religion, was not the same. Nothing was the same for him after everything he went through. So when he looked in the mirror, he didn't see the young boy who lived in Sighet. He sees a person who had been through too much, seen too much. (Page 115)

1) Ellie was not very affected by his fathers death, yes he wanted him to survive, but he kept thinking that maybe things would be better if husband father did die so he could worry about himself for once. The biggest part of Ellie that died was his hope. He wanted to survive but near the end, he stopped caring about who lived or who died. The traits that were born in place of the one that died, was his. Point of view on things, he now knows what life is like for people, and what death means now.

2) Ellie does not recognize himself because he saw so many things that happened, death of children, torcher, starvation, etc. He saw the worst of life, and he survived. He was not the same reckless boy that he was before he was taken into the camps. He survived many terrible things and his whole view on life changed.

1) Elie had always tried to stay with his father and in the trian when they where taking away the corpses, and they almost took his father he kept saying that he is alive and he is not dead. When his father was getting sick Elie would bring him some food but all he wanted was water, and Elie stayed with his father till the very end. When Elie woke up to find another sick person in place of his father he thought that maybe he was still alive in the cremation, but then thought that he was probably dead and hat his grave not one pray was said to or for him.
2) When the Russian came to free them Elie became very sick and was taking to a hospital, and there he found a mirror and saw him self. But in his eyes he did not know who he was. He did not recognize him self after being in a consintration camp for so long and being starved and giving up on his god and his father dead he just did not recognize who he was anymore.

The sickness and death of his father has not really affected him, when his father did die we did not weep nor felt any pain. I feel as if Elie thought of his fathe as a burden and just dead weight on his shoulders. Elie did not move when his father called for him resulting to his father receiving a violent blow to the head, and his last words were his name. I feel like the parts that died in Elie was caring about people and it changed to greediness. When that man came up to him and said that no one could and would help his father because he was going to end up dead and instead of giving him some of his own rations he could be getting a second bowl or soup and a second ration of bread, and Elie actually considered it for a minute.

Elie doesn't recognize himself in the mirror because all that was him when he last saw himself in a mirror; inside and out was gone, especially his faith towards god. He was so religious praying everyday and having talks about his religion but now he doubts god, his hope has run empty and he didn't even think about his father, mother nor sister anymore at the end.

1. The death of Ellie's father did have not much of an affect on Ellie. His father was struggling to survive for months and had been almost asking to die but Ellie refused to let him. He gave him food, water clothes and his precious bread and soup rations just so his father would survive. But when he did pass away Elli almost felt relieved, because he can finally focus on himself on his needs to survive.

2. Elli doesn't nor recongnize himself for many reasons, one being he looks completely different with a shaved head and skinny. But there is a much more deep meaning then that behind it. He feels like he as a person has changed after witnessing all the death and horrible things in a concentration camp. He also has lost everyone he loves, doesn't believe In god, and has a dark shadow cast over him the rest of his life.

I think that part of his heart died because he loved his father and didn't want him to go. I also think that he his emotion died because eveything that happened changed him and he always knew that death would be coming to the ines that he loved and himself.
Part 2: Elie doesn't recognize himself because of many reasons, one being physical appearance, he was really thin from not eating for six days at the end and his whole time there they didn't eat that much, his head was shaved and being dirty from not being around showers not that they could use them whenever they wanted if there was a lot around. He was also sleep deprived and probably had something going on mentally because of no sleep, not eating, forced to watch death and just being around death and not being able to help stop any of it.

In the start of the book Elie's father was doing very good and in great and healthy condition. Over time and with lots of torture including, starvation, also getting beaten. Months went by and Ellie's life was starting to turn to just taking care of his dad. After America came and ambushed the Germans, the evacuation began. Running bare foot in the snow was brutle for Elie himself to do, especially after foot surgery, but to take care and push his dad was another task on Elie's hands. After the run a week passed and spending every minute, every moment with his dad, Elie's dad died. I think Ellie was effected greatly. Not only because he was sharing his time, food and all his effort for his dad. Ellie was practically surviving for his dad. Having his dad die must have been really tuff. But Ellie was able to survive.

About a year before Ellie and his family were living in their own home in piece. Back than everybody was healthy and in good condition. Than the year started at the consintration camp and the torture began brutally. Starvation occurred and numerous amounts of beatings happened each day. Ellie was starved, beaten and even worse... giving his dad his only portions of soup and water. After the evacuation a month or so later Ellie survived and made it out of the camp and was free. He looked himself in the mirror and didn't even recognize himself. That's how bad, and how tragic the camp was and what happened to Ellie.
