Kalee has been working as a runner for some time, gaining experience across a variety of productions. Along the way, she’s had the chance to step up into floor Third and Crowd Third positions. Those moments sparked her ambition to move into the role more formally:

“As an experienced runner I've had various opportunities to step up as a Floor Third and Crowd Third. I'm looking to step up in the not-so-distant future and wanted the opportunity to learn and gain skills to ensure I do so to the best of my abilities.”

The course began with a focus on the theoretical side of being a Third AD, which Kalee found particularly valuable. Having the chance to learn from both experienced professionals and peers gave her new perspectives and clarified the responsibilities of the role:

“The theory side of the course was a great opportunity to learn from those with more experience and peers. It was extremely helpful to be able to discuss concepts and get answers to questions around Thirding.”

One of the key takeaways for Kalee was the supportive atmosphere fostered by the tutors and participants. She highlighted the encouragement she received from working professionals who shared insights and feedback in a constructive way:

“It's great to have professionals on set who could give us feedback and encourage us, and it just felt like it was a great learning experience. From the people who are teaching us, the people running the course, to every participant, everyone was just really happy to be here and really keen to learn.”

For now, Kalee is continuing to work as a runner but with new knowledge and confidence gained from the course, she feels better prepared for when opportunities arise to step up as a Third AD:

“Next for me, I'm still on a job for the next while as a runner, but I'm hopeful that this course will have empowered me for whatever opportunities come up next.”
