In order to ensure our allies pay us back and to help prevent the German U-boats from threatening American shipping, Congress has given unprecedented power to President Woodrow Wilson that will allow him to regulate and nationalize war-related industries. President Wilson created the "War Industries Board" to help increase efficiency through the standardization of production. President Wilson also encouraged the Food Administration to produce and conserve food. As a result, keep an eye out for a decree on "Meatless Mondays" and we will be looking for pictures of your Victory Gardens! (Forte, Slides 4-7)

Part of President Wilson's new power's from Congress have allowed him to take over factories of industry to make items needs for the war effort. One example is the need for expansion of our fleet in order to transport men and goods. President Wilson created the following plan:

4 Steps to Fleet Expansion

1. Exempt shipyard workers from the draft

2. Public relations campaign – emphasize shipyard importance

3. Prefabrication techniques will be utilized thanks to the decree of the "War Industries Board" and their standardization of production!

4. The Government will now have control over commercial and private ships so that they can be converted for transatlantic war use! (Forte Slides)

October 7th, 1913 Henry Ford introduced the assembly line to help with the efficiency of production of the Ford Model T. The allies have been able to utilize the moving assembly belt to help churn out tanks, planes, ambulances and munitions desperately needed for the war effort (Wall Street Journal)President Wilson has enlisted the automakers help with making the Mass Production effort a reality in 1917! Women have now begun working in the factories as our men are off at war, according to Grace Chase, "We've got this just as good as any of our men!" and "We will do our part!"

The increase in war related industry production has drastically helped our troops! With the increase in ships made our troops have developed the Convoy System which allows military ships to go with merchant ships to prevent the German U-boats from sinking them, the results were that sinkings were cut in half by the end of 1917! The increased production of tanks has allowed our infantry to clear paths all across Europe and airplanes have been used for scouting on many battlefields! This results in Russia pulling out of the war effort in 1917 all together allowing our troops to stop the German advance into France! (Forte, Slides 10-12)
