There getting paid for every job and they could be inconsistent because they could be monthly and must be prepared to work hard. A benefit could be there are flexible hours and they don't have to be there everyday. The stringer isn't on a per infant contract so they do not have to pay for health care. Also there contract includes that they get given some money up front then they pay the rest at the end. Also the contract is with the freelancer and the work placement. For example they may need a cartoonist for a page in the paper there on freelance because they don't there cartoons all he time. Different freelancers for different sectors. Benefits are that they have flexible hours and you are doing you specialise in. Your the boss of yourself you decide the final outcome. Drawbacks are that work isn't always available and you could go weeks without a job. The benefit for the company is that it there easy to find and also benefit for the freelance is that the company normally has there own equipment so you can use it.
Casual worker

A casual worker is only an employee who works when they are needed and the company may not need them again. Also they need to be constantly under supervision by the manager. The type of people that use a casual worker are film makers for instance they may need a runner who lives local so they don't pay costs. The pros is that you don't have to work full time but a drawback is that you don't have leave entitlements. Another benefit is that you have a higher annual pay and a drawback is that you may be out of work. Benefits to the company is that you can call them when needed and they only give them casual pay. Tends to be low skill jobs for people leaving college or sixth form looking for work in the industry.

Fixed term means you can either have full time or part time. You are committed to it fully as long as your contract states. Benefits are that the company only need you for a certain amount of time. However you only have a fixed amount of hours but it is flexible. they have good knowledge of the industry and also have a creative mind set. Benefits for the individual is that you get the same amount as full time workers but the work may not be there for to long. once you have the experience in the industry it may get easier to get work. However fixed term could mean a few weeks or a few months depending on how long the shoot is lasting if you are a camera operator.

When you are in a full time job you are contracted to 45-40 hours per week. Examples are that many companies take full time employers not so much in the media industry unless your working in a news company and you are a fixed editor. They get holidays allowance and also get sick pay and they build a relationship with the company and once worked there for a long time you can get promoted higher in the company. Also you become part of the company and believe in it. You also have a set amount of pay on your contract. However working full time does not mean working 9 to 5 it can be night shifts. Benefits for the company are that when you have full time employes it means they are dedicated to the company however the more full tim,e employers you have the more you have to pay them. Personal skills you should have is good communication and people skills and to have a creative mind.

Working practices within radio are that they are responsible for broadcasting music and information to the target audiace. They enrolee presenters producers and advertisers that all have the purpose of getting you to there station. This compares to print as the working practices in print are that other companies call up and ask them if they van do this in an alloted time. However in radio they have more working practices involved.

In radio they are influenced by many technological developments for instance when new audio is created they use it to broadcast their content. However in print they use technology to make thereprintig easier to do and will allow them to not give out as many jobs.

The type of contracts they imply people can range from full time to part time as different roles in the industry need different hours to others. Also in print they hire part time employees however they also hire freelancers and full time employees to save money and to build a bond with the.

Skills that are required in radio are good communication, English writing understanding of research the ability and to be able to work under pressure. However in print you must have a creative mind to complete the work in alotted time. Also to have good time management because you have to keep your work neat and try to make yourself stand out.

Codes of conduct are is that society comes first always and you Must have respect and equity to all of the viewers. Codes of conduct in print are that you must avoid plagerism because if you copy someone else's report you can get into serious trouble. This also apples to radio to as if they use an article made by someone else and do not get there permission they will get into trouble and could be sued for it.

Professional bodies used in radio are RAJAR and OFCOM and these control what is aired on the radio. However in print they use DANR which helps make the print liable to print.

I believe my team mates today were outstanding this is because we split out our tasks very well. In addition I believe our team leader gave us roles that we all completed whilst helping each other if he or she was struggling. Our team leader kept us together and also kept us on task and we did not get distracted. However for me to improve for next time I should put more work into the padlet to make sure they understood because my writing was unclear at some points.

The feedback that i got from my peers was that I didn't always make eye contact with the person interviewing me. They said i also repeated some things that i didn't really need to say but overall it was a solid interview. They also said I had good body posture and was very confident when speaking. They said this gave off positive vibes and made me look like i want the job. However I need to develop and learn how to maintain eye contact. This is because this makes me look like a very confident person. I will practice this by practising on family members at home or just looking into a camera for 5 minutes straight whilst talking. This will allow me to learn for the next time i have an interview in the future.

Critical Comparison (If improvements can be improved please leave a message

Critical comparison

Within the Media industry there are many professional bodies that help regulate the media industry. These companies are RAJAR, BARB and OFCOM. All of these companies have their different legislations and do different things for different companies. For instance BARB allows companies to see how many people view there programme at a time. This can show to them if a certain programme is doing better than others. BARB stands for Broadcasters Audience Research Board and on their website it shows the weekly top programmes. In comparison to BARB, OFCOM is different it is the leading communications regulator in the UK. They regulate TV and the Radio sectors, fixed line telecoms, mobiles and postal services. For instance in Radio OFCOM allows certain things to be aired and if they are not appropriate for that certain time they will say no to that station and they will have to air it at another time. This is a key company that helps stations because it makes sure that they do not get in trouble with the government and public for airing something inappropriate. Another company that specialises specifically in the Radio industry is RAJAR which stands for Radio Joint Audience Research. This company measures and profiles the audience of UK Radio station. Another professional body that helps regulate a certain area in the media industry is the NUJ, National Union of Journalists. This company is the voice of journalists and its aim is to improve the pay and conditions of their members. Compared to a body such as RAJAR the NUJ helps the people of journalism whereas RAJAR only helps regulate a certain area. The NUJ get their message across by having members all across the UK and come together to campaign against the pay and try and improve it. Another comparison to another company for instance OFCOM they are not a group they help legislate a certain area.

Lincoln University talk

Last lesson we had a interesting talk with a senior member of staff from Linocln University. This was a great talk as it gave me a great insight into what University life is all about. He talked about what courses you can study, clubs you can join and also gave us information on the living costs. This was great information to mr as I didn't have a clue about the costs of living when you are at Univercity and from that talk I learnt that it costs over £9000 a year just for living expenses. In addition he talked about what grades you will need to get into stage 1 and thats between a Merit and Distinction when doing an Extended Diploma. I found this day very helpful to me as I now know this is a University I will consider in the future.
