Serbia's Political Boundaries

Serbia has had constant changes of it's boundaries over time. In 1815, it became part of the Ottoman Empire. Eventually, Serbia achieved it's independence from the Ottoman Empire and became it's own country. Around later after 1947, Serbia had it's Boarders extended and gained the shape it now has today.

Ethnic or Physical Boundaries?

In my opinion, Serbia's boarders are more related to cultural boundaries. I believe this because most of Serbia is already covered in mountains, and it would be odd to place the boarders in those specific locations. Also, Serbia has religion problems with Bulgaria and Romania, which would more likely result in the shape of Serbia's boarders, rather than the mountains.

A shape that could somewhat describe Serbia's shape could be a rectangle, with oddly shaped boarders. Serbia is also not facing any problems due to it's shape.
