         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>ruled (1353–36 BCE) of <a href="https://www.britannica.com/place/ancient-Egypt">ancient Egypt</a> of the <a href="https://www.britannica.com/place/ancient-Egypt/The-Middle-Kingdom-1938-c-1630-bce-and-the-Second-Intermediate-period-c-1630-1540-bce#ref22309">18th dynasty</a>, who established a new cult dedicated to the <a href="https://www.britannica.com/topic/Aton">Aton</a>, the sun’s disk (hence his assumed name, Akhenaten, meaning “beneficial to Aton”).</li><li>was an <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Egypt">ancient Egyptian</a> <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pharaoh">pharaoh</a> of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/18th_Dynasty">18th Dynasty</a> who ruled for 17 years and died perhaps in 1336 BC or 1334 BC.</li><li>Modern interest in Akhenaten and his queen <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nefertiti">Nefertiti</a> comes partly from his connection with <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tutankhamun">Tutankhamun</a> (even though Tutankhamun's mother was not Nefertiti, but a woman named by archaeologists <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Younger_Lady">The Younger Lady</a>), partly from the unique style and high quality of the pictorial <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amarna_art">arts he patronized</a>, and partly from ongoing interest in <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atenism">the religion</a> he attempted to establish.</li></ul>]]></description>

Ptolemy took the reigns of Egypt after Alexander’s death in 323 B.C., and he launched a dynasty of Greek-speaking rulers that lasted for nearly three centuries. Despite not being ethnically Egyptian, Cleopatra embraced many of her country’s ancient customs and was the first member of the Ptolemaic line to learn the Egyptian language.</li></ul>]]></description>
