It is usually the same parents that speak up and advocate for their child. This should not mean that the other students do not receive what they need to be successful. Teachers are held to a standard of treating students equitably regardless of parent involvement (Ontario College of Teachers, 2016).

How to Hear the Right Voices

With the responsibility to treat students equitably (Ontario College of Teachers, 2016) we must hear the right voices. Parents should be given the opportunity for engagement with their children's education and be told the value that it has. This engagement is not just being in the school, but arguably more importantly, is engagement at home (Kidder, 2011). Through hearing parent voices and engaging them with their students learning, children can be given an equitable chance for success.
