Five years from now, I would like to remember how important it is for students to main contributors in their education through creative communication. In section 1.6, students are shown and expected to express themselves creatively for a variety of purposes by using a magnitude of platforms to do so. In the age of technology, it is important that we distinguish how to properly communicate digitally while maintaining the message for their intended audience. It is important that students also know how to do this across subject areas.

One thing I want to remember five years from now is that technology is our friend or a tool to make our jobs easier! In the climate of the world right now, technology is seen as something negative in a sense because many are afraid that technology will "take our jobs away". In some cases that sentiment could be very true, but we must be willing to change with the times and use technology as a tool to help further educate the youth to become great people and leaders for our society!

As a future educator, five years from now I would like to remember the fact that although technology will continue to grow and evolve, students will still need to be guided through the necessary steps when it comes to technology usage. Technology is a great resource when it comes to teaching children, but we cannot solely rely on it. We have to ensure that students are using these digital tools in a creative, responsible, and insightful way.

It is imperative that students are able to independently engage with technology for learning purposes during school- they are agents of their own learning. This not only promotes skills that are beneficial later in life (such as independence or creative thinking) but it also allows students to engage with technology beyond a surfaced level. In turn, this can help promote active use of technology in the classroom.

One thing I want to remember in five years from now, after reading the ISTE student standards, is the major shift in thinking away from solely teaching basic technology skills towards teaching students how to leverage technology for their learning. My public education on technology primarily focused on basic skills, such as using the internet and typing, without delving into how technology can be effectively utilized by students and the numerous ways it can be applied in/out of the classroom.

One thing I want to remember five years from now is that our role as teachers is to facilitate the education of the students while they develop in their own "autonomy". It can be so easy to be caught up in the role of an authority and overuse it, when in actuality the students should be in control of their own education. You plant the seed but they cultivate it.
