Gender equality is one of the 30 human rights that exist today in the universal declaration of human rights. However, it is not 100% respected worldwide, with extreme inequalities in several countries around the world.
The UN, being aware of this situation, arranged measures for the possible extinction, in the long term, of the present inequalities experienced. Mostly in these situations, women are the main victims, since, according to studies carried out, the number of female victims is greater than the number of male victims.
The goals are aimed at ending all forms of discrimination against all women and girls, everywhere.
Eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in public and private spheres, including trafficking and sexual and other types of exploitation. Eliminate all harmful practices such as early, forced and child marriages, as well as female genital mutilation. Recognize and value unpaid care and domestic work, through the provision of public services, infrastructure and social protection policies, as well as the promotion of shared responsibility within the home and family, according to national contexts. Ensure the full and effective participation of women and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic and public life. Ensure universal access to sexual and reprodutivo health and reproductive rights, in line with the International Conference on Population and Development Program of Action and the Beijing Platform for Action and the documents resulting from its review conferences. Carry out reforms to give women equal rights to economic resources, as well as access to ownership and control over land and other forms of property, financial services, inheritance and natural resources, in accordance with national laws. Increase the use of basic technologies, in particular information and communication technologies, to promote women's empowerment. Adopt and strengthen sound policies and applicable legislation to promote gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls at all levels.
To conclude, our group defend that this human right needs to be respected 100%.

Diogo Belo, N°10
Gonçalo Oliveira, N°17
Rafael Fernandes, N°25
Rúben Albasini, N°29

In relation to men, women suffer from several inequalities in the right to work, which may depend on salary, norms or privileges.

Christian and Stefany are two workers at a technology company in Washington. Their boss told them to create a project to be presented at a backstage meeting of the company.

One day before the presentation of the work, the boss arrives at the employees' room and says:

Boss: Tonight we will have a party to celebrate the launch of the project and you are invited, I mean, you Christian are invited, stefany, you are going home, finish the project.

Christian-hahahahaha its ok boss.

The next day, the day of presenting the work to the boss before it is released, the boss asks the two employees to show up in his office.

Boss- well! I called you ca because I need to see and analyze the project before it is released, Stefany shows you what you did.

Stefany- well, this is my boss project, everything is as you asked, but I added a detail, because what the boss suggested I thought was incomplete.

Boss: who do you think you are? You women just do what you want, with the habit of changing things. This project is rubbish! Christian, you are our only solution. Where is your project?

Christian: Uh! I haven't finished my boss project yet. You know, last night was busy!

Boss: no problem, we drink a little too much hahahaha. But bring the project tomorrow, as it will be launch day.

(Stefany crying and talking to herself)

Stefany: What did I do to deserve this? They don't pay me well anymore, I don't have company privileges and on top of that I'm mistreated. Is that the price of being a woman?

(On the day of project launch)

Boss: Christian, the project!

Christian: hammm....(hands over the project).

Chief: what is this? If I present this, the company will lose all its partners. stefany's project was better than yours. How can you let a woman have a better project than yours?

(The boss presented Christian's work and lost all his best partners and according to Stefany, what do you think she should do with you in her place?

Work done by:

Ana Paula RodriguesNº4

Eliane RodriguesNº12

Daniela Fonseca Nº7

Filipa Sousa Nº15

What´s Gender Equality?
Gender Equality means that girls/women and boys/men have the same rights and are able to do the same things, and above all, have the right to be respected in their differences. In the world, in the country where we live, and even in the school where we study, girls and women are often treated differently from boys and men. There are countries where women cannot vote, or where girls cannot go to school. In the world in general, women earn less than men, even when they do the samework.
What´s the difference between Equality and Equity?
Equality is a principle that treats people belonging to a certain group equally. The law aims at the idea that everyone is equal under the law. Equity aims to promote a fairer society, in which different people need to be treated differently so that they have the same opportunities. Equity is not opposed to Equality, reinforcing Equality through "affirmative action". These actions prevent the social exclusion of vulnerable people and minority groups.
How does Inequality impact society?
Social Inequality refers to relational processes in society that have the effect of limiting a certain grous. Gender Inequality exists everywhere, however Gender Inequality is more present in non developed countries. For example, the right to vote, different job positions, division of tasks and wage Inequality.
What can we do to achieve Equality?
Equality is something that unfortunately we didn´t achieve yet. And although it could he a slow process there`s things we can do to help such as:
-Valuing women for their attributes: till this day there`s thought that women in high positions get there by using their body to seduce someone, but in most of the time that isn`t the case and we need to value women who work very hard to get where they are.
-Promote more equal salaries: in general men get paid more for doing the same job as a women and sometimes this salary difference is really drastic. To avoid this salaries should be given by looking at how much a person has worked and not their gender.
-Educate children: we should educate children from a young age so they can grow up open minded and without the thought of superiority.
Does Feminism have anything to do with Gender Equality?
If you stand for Gender Equality, you are not a feminist, although anyone should be Feminist, but defend the Gender Equality to have a fair society with no differences between the genders even thought the reality that we live is not perfect as we hope.

Bárbara nº5
Denis nº9
Gonçalo T. nº16
Mariana nº21
Miguel nº24
