This led to poverty, hardship and many people being unemployed.

one of the themes in the great depression is hardship. people found it very hard to get along with a lack of income. the struggled a lot financially so a lot of kids couldnt go to school and had to do chores instead. 

another theme of the great depression was poverty. the value of stocks went down dramatically so everyone who invested their money lost a lot of money. and everyone was withdrawing their money from banks before they shut down. those who were not able to withdraw their cash lost all their money.

another theme of the great depression was unemployment. because of the great depression many businesses went broke so they could not afford to employ people anymore. this meant that many people had to live off government benefits.
