As shown by prayer, patience, and humility, Catherine McAuley taught that love for God must come before all else. She spent many hours reflecting on Christ's Passion and the love made visible in the Eucharist while she was in the Blessed Sacrament. Catherine encouraged her Sisters to make everyday life joyful while staying devoted to God and to visit the tabernacle often. The only way to truly serve Jesus, in her opinion, was to truly remember Him. She therefore encouraged her Sisters to allow their deeds to mirror the goodness and will of God. Her strong devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, who helped her to love Jesus more completely, was an essential part of her spirituality. She believed that prayer, particularly the Rosary, was an effective way to take on Mary's virtues. Serving others should always be done with love, humility, and devotion to God, as demonstrated by Catherine's example.

The basic principle of Catherine McAuley's faith was the love of God expressed through service to others. She maintained that mercy in action was just as important as prayer and reflection, which she considered to be the heart of the apostolate. According to her, the Sisters of Mercy were called to be kind, understanding, and joyful to the people they assisted. She compared neglecting the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy to a rusty knife and taught that doing so brought people closer to God. She underlined that a Sister of Mercy's life must always involve both prayer and service. By leading this life, Catherine became a genuine witness of God's love and shone a light on the darkness of poverty and suffering. She displayed Pope John XXIII's belief that every Christian is a "spark of light" and a source of life for others. By giving up all material possessions and committing herself entirely to God and service, Catherine fully followed Christ's example.

True discipleship, according to Catherine McAuley, involves following Christ by abandoning material wealth and comforts. She highlighted the peaceful, joyful, and unwavering spirit of holy poverty. She believed that putting on Christ meant being kind, understanding, modest, obedient, giving, and joyful. She compared humility to the unseen roots of a tree that support its strength, seeing it as the cornerstone of all religious discipline. By letting go of her own will and imitating Mary's devotion and lowliness, Catherine demonstrated this humility. She taught that humility must be genuine and useful, and she exhorted her Sisters to stop using the words "me" and "mine" in their daily lives. She felt that prayer was the only way to gain wisdom and perseverance, as well as the source of strength. Lastly, she reminded her sisters to faithfully use all of God's gifts and talents for His greater glory.

Catherine McAuley believed the best way to serve others was by living a holy and faithful life, offering an example for others to follow. She emphasized that proclaiming the Gospel is not only about words but also about the witness of one’s actions and character. Her personality was described as radiating Christ’s love, drawing others closer to God through her kindness and humility. Catherine focused her life on loving God, carrying His cross, imitating Jesus, trusting in His providence, and finding peace in prayer before the tabernacle. She saw Jesus as a living example, like an open book to be studied and imitated in thought, word, and deed. Catherine urged her Sisters to live in such a way that Christ Himself would recognize them as closely united with Him. Her approach showed that holiness and genuine love were the most powerful tools for spreading the Gospel. Through her life and guidance, she inspired others to embody the spirit of Christ in all they did.

Catherine McAuley’s life was shaped by a deep love for God and a desire to help others find that love. She believed the best way to bring people closer to God was through kindness, good example, and a joyful spirit that would naturally draw others in. After losing her father as a young girl, she spent many years feeling alone as a Catholic in a society that often rejected her faith. In those difficult times, she turned to prayer and Scripture for strength, finding comfort in Christ’s suffering and learning to trust God completely. This trust led her to accept life’s hardships, including the deaths of loved ones, with remarkable peace and faith. Catherine often said that those who dedicate their lives to God should put all their hopes and fears in Him alone. She also believed that obedience was at the heart of religious life, making it the focus of her first public talk in Baggot Street. Her gentle spirit, steady faith, and dedication to serving others continue to inspire people today.

Catherine McAuley believed that obedience was the most important of the religious vows because it meant giving back to God the greatest gift He had given us, our own will. She always tried to keep her heart centered on God, believing that everything she did, whether it was prayer or daily work, should be for Him. Even as a busy foundress traveling from place to place, she found comfort in knowing her heart could always rest in God. Catherine trusted God’s guidance completely, even when life took her in unexpected directions. She blended a life of prayer with active service, showing that caring for others and worshiping God were both ways to live her faith. Taught as a child to love God above all and to love others for God’s sake, she carried this lesson throughout her life. She encouraged her followers to imitate Christ’s holiness and to find strength in devotions like the Eucharist, the Sacred Heart, the Passion, and Mary under the title of Mercy. Her deep love for the Cross and the Sacred Heart inspired her mission of mercy and gave her peace and purpose in all she did.

Catherine McAuley emphasized meekness, explaining that it inspired kindness and respect for others while bringing strength, calm, and confidence. She established in her Sisters the values of respect, tolerance, and excellent manners as manifestations of love and good deeds. Catherine favored the straightforward title of "Mother Catherine" and avoided needless honors, even though she rose to the position of Mother Superior. By sharing common household tasks and even sharing her bed when necessary, she disapproved of being treated differently. When she was commended for her accomplishments, she insisted that God should receive all the praise. "If it is God's work, it needs no one" was her guiding concept, demonstrating her strong faith in God's providence. Catherine insisted on giving thanks to God all the time, stressing that every success should be seen as a gift from Him. She was a patient and gentle leader who encouraged others without turning to strict rules or cruelty.

Catherine McAuley thought that power should be used wisely, favoring persuasion over force, but still making hard choices when necessary. She demonstrated a keen understanding of people and urged leaders to mentor others in accordance with their abilities. Her strategy was in line with Perfectae Caritatis' beliefs, which placed a strong emphasis on treating people with kindness and respecting their unique personalities. Catherine emphasized the importance of education and encouraged her Sisters to remain educated and skilled in both their professional and spiritual lives. She felt that education had to promote religious development as well as individual success. Because she coupled knowledge with humility and devotion to Christ's example, her intelligence was valued. Catherine led a modest life, emphasizing her devotion to God over prudence and elegance. By keeping an open mind to the Spirit's teaching, she helped her Sisters avoid strict legalism.

By treating Sisters with dignity and trust while maintaining a tone of honesty and discussion, her approach demonstrated her belief in equal treatment. She valued transparency and understanding in leadership and promoted communication between superiors and subordinates. Catherine preferred simplicity and less formality, and the convent engaged talks in a family-like manner. She fostered an environment where the Sisters felt uplifted and supported by promoting independence, understanding, and joy. Catherine demonstrated her sincerity in all of her interactions by emphasizing that "realness is the basis of communication." She also shared the risks and responsibilities of her missions, encouraging her Sisters to be brave. Catherine's leadership promoted harmony, modesty, and a balance between practical and profound spirituality.

Catherine McAuley prized availability and sensitiveness as significant aspects of her work. She thought that openness to others' needs indicated faith in God's providence and availability to minister. Catherine urged her Sisters to be available to the poor and suffering at all times even when it was inconvenient. She wrote to her Sisters in a letter dated November 1840 that they should waste no chance to solace and to help visitors or those in distress. Generosity of heart impelled her so much that she thought no one in Kingston or anywhere else should go hungry or without assistance. Catherine's sensitiveness revealed itself when she confided that she was afraid of giving food directly, revealing her innate gentleness and humility. She cautioned her Sisters as well not to seem excessively inquisitive when serving others so as to remind them that charity is respectful. Generally speaking, her lessons pointed to the truth that genuine charity is charitable as well as modest in action.

Catherine McAuley was approachable and affectionate to all people, employing such warm human relationships as instruments to foster peace and harmony. Her profound spiritual discipline and commitment became a model to others, whereas humility, charity, and loyalty were centered in her teaching. She invited her Sisters to live out religious virtues sincerely and in a simple manner and to strive constantly for holiness through daily ordinary acts. Catherine taught that authentic holiness proceeds from no extraordinary work but from accomplishing ordinary tasks in extraordinary affection. She perceived each day as a preparation for eternal life as a call to meekness, patience, charity, and devotion to Christ. Central to all that she taught remained the love of Christ, love of poverty, and love of each other which she held to be the source of Christian living. Catherine frequently warned her Sisters that love must be demonstrated in action even unto sacrifice. Her counsel insisted that love is that bond that joins them to God, to each other, and to all creation as the driving force behind their apostolic work and serving.

Catherine McAuley avoided jealousy, suspicion, and coldness and instead taught that unity and joy should characterize relationships among her Sisters. She asked them to treat others kindly and with sweetness, following Jesus in word and deed. To Catherine, charity entailed having a soft and loving spirit and hearing patiently others' sorrows. She believed sanctification could only come from gentleness and kindness rather than from any externals of piety. Catherine insisted that love and cordiality should come from within and that they should refresh and strengthen given as well as receiver. She cautioned that rules and regulations were nothing without real charity to direct them. To her, love of neighbors was chief of all commands. Finally, she viewed love as a basis of community life as well as its most evident expression of living in Christ.

The passage says that being close to God is very important for a happy and peaceful life. God gives love and care like a Father and we should trust Him. Catherine McAuley taught people to stay strong even when life is hard. She saw that many sisters had too much work and too few helpers, but she believed God helps everyone who asks and gives them strength. Catherine warned that sadness and worry can pull people away from God, while trust brings them closer. She wanted sisters to live with faith, prayer, and kindness every day. Because of this, Catherine is remembered as a holy woman who showed love, prayer, and courage.

Catherine McAuley said we need God’s help and prayer to stay strong and close to Him. She believed our most important jobs are the ones that bring us closer to God. She thought that just working hard isn’t enough to keep people together, but love, kindness, and prayer are. She wanted her Sisters to live with peace, follow the rules, and love each other. She taught that every group needs unity, prayer, and trust in God. Catherine reminded people that Jesus is everywhere, always near, and the Spirit speaks quietly in every heart. She was very down-to-earth and believed in living each day with small steps toward goodness. Her advice was to do good today, do even better tomorrow, and keep moving toward heaven together.

Catherine McAuley said the most important thing in life is loving God and praying every day. She taught her Sisters that real happiness comes from peace, kindness, and living by faith, not just by working hard. She reminded people that Jesus is always near and the Spirit speaks softly in every heart. Catherine wanted her Sisters to be cheerful, gentle, and full of love so they could bring joy to others. People saw her as strong and serious but also sweet, playful, and patient, with deep trust in God. She cared for her Sisters, for women, and for children, always showing mercy and kindness. Even though she was a leader, she never forgot to care for each person’s happiness. At the end of her life, she could say she fought the good fight, kept the faith, and left behind a legacy of love.
