Also they feel  when someone says redskins they feel derogatory. They don't take it as slur  they take being racist. To them it is not a stigmatize  to them the redskins are   “Its origin is hated... [It] was used against our people when we were forced off our lands at gunpoint.” I know this sound dumb but to them it is not just a word and connotation, just a word can charge a lot. Also why should they be called redskins being stereotyped as a redskins team that is racist so i believe they should the name. The name they WANT.

I believe Washington Redskin should change the name of the team.  The term redskin is an ethnic slur.  It refers to the color of the Native American skin color.  It came about during the 1800s when Native Americans were forced out from their land.  Redskin is an offensive and hateful word.  An NFL team should not use a derogatory word as its team’s name.  The name of a team should symbolize what a team stands for - it should represent winners and have a positive connotation.  There are sports teams named after fierce animals including Detroit Tigers from the MLB and Memphis Grizzlies from the NBA.  And there are other teams named after beloved, peaceful animals including Miami Dolphins from the NFL.  Other names from sports teams have names that show characters like Atlanta Braves from the MLB and Golden State Warriors from the NBA.  I don’t know why anyone would name a sports team after a term that stereotypes Native Americas.

  

I know change is not easy.  But sometimes change is necessary.  Redskin needs to change their name to something else.  To a name that doesn’t stigmatize Native Americans.

I think in my opinion the Washington redskins should change their name.

According to the text it states that they argue that when the term redskins is used they argue that it is not meant to STIGMATIZE  or offend Native Americans any more then the name’s Cleveland Indians or Atlanta Braves or Kansas City chefs the term Redskins” STEREOTYPES  Native Americans based on skin color.

The passage also states that redskins was first introduced In the 1800s as a DEROGATORY name for Americans and thus still, carries those negative CONNOTATIONS. There are many terms that are used with intent to offend by some people but are not perceived as slurs. Ethinic slurs are common, and many other terms can be offensive or friendly depending on how they are used. 

In conclusion we should all focus instead on getting rid of prejudice and intergroup conflicts such word offensive.
