Art can be the first step in an activist movement, or it can be a driving tool to generate momentum. In part 1, students will explore different art exhibitions that are focused on activism. Then, they will have the chance to virtually "curate" their own small exhibition from their online research. In part 2, students work collaboratively to identify and select a message or theme for a community activism mural. They will paint their mural on a large sheet of MDF board, and this will be displayed in a prominent part of the school. Discuss the word activism and social justice
Present an Art exhibition, model google arts and culture
Explain what curators do: (Slideshow) include judgment, conceptual ideas, and a curitorial statement. Share some examples

- Day 2

Divide students into groups
Have students select a big idea within activism and social justice: LGBTQA+, Racism, Gender, Religion, etc. Can also give a list of suggestions on collections and galleries to explore.
Curate their own exhibition (7 pieces, including 1 2D, 3D, and digital)
Write a curatorial statement statement
Share with the class

**Formative Assessment: Group presentation of curated exhibit

Break into groups and brainstorm important community issues
Begin sketching ideas, color schemes, imagery for a group mural. Students to come up with 3 ideas.
