You should be able to make connections from elementary school math all the way through middle, high, and college. You have to know the basics in math before you can move on to anything else or youll be stuck. I see this in my students a lot, they get stuck or tripped up over multiplying fractions or negative numbers. So being able to "You remember when we did this...you do that here too" will help.
I see this with myself in my own math classes. Students often learn better from their peers who are more likely to understand them.
We see this a lot in classes we have all these discussion boards we have to comment on. When people think of math, they do not think of the why they perform the equations. This would be really helpful if they did because it allows you to figure things out because you know the rules.

I do the same when I go around the help with work.
