In the case of them hurting somebody else, then they need punishment or help if it is a mental problem. If somebody that you knew was hurt, you would want justice to be served. If somebody that you knew hurt somebody else, you feel like your trust in them was betrayed and you would want them to reconsider their decision to harm another person. After we have given the people who hurt others a chance, then punishments need to be permanent.
