Do I need to submit an Extenuating Circumstances Form (ECF) to cover the strike period?

In the majority of cases, the department does not expect students to have to submit ECFs to cover the strike period. We will be monitoring any disruption to modules/overall cohorts and will assess the impact of this on all students where necessary.

If you are unsure, please contact Lizzie Ibbotson via phy-support@sheffield.ac.uk for advice.

Will I be told in advance if my teaching is cancelled?

Some staff may advise you in advance but this is not guaranteed.

Staff who are planning to strike are not required to notify other members of staff or students of their intentions so it is possible that you may not be told in advance and may arrive to a teaching session to find it is cancelled.

Unless you hear from the lecturer, Head of School or phy-support@sheffield.ac.uk, you should assume teaching is going ahead. If you arrive to teaching and after 10 minutes no lecturer or tutor has arrived, you can assume it is not going ahead and leave.

You should also not assume that if one lecturer cancels teaching that they will cancel all of their teaching. Staff may choose to not strike for the full period and so you should assume all teaching is going ahead unless you hear otherwise for that specific session.
