My thoughts on the Book

Ratliff's book was kind of confusing to me because I am not a music major. So, many of the references that Ratliff made relating to making music did not make any sense to me. I did understand what he was saying when he picked the elements out and explained them to us. All around, though, Ratliff tried his best to incorporate many elements and modern songs in this book.

I did like when Ratliff would name songs and artists that I know and are known throughout modern day society. Like the in chapter 20 he named Frank Sinatra and his song "Good-Bye".

One of the problems that I had with this book is that it is based on one person's opinion, not a majority. This is what I have found troubling. This book is basically about what Ratliff thinks is and is not music. Music is different between everyone of us due to everyone having a different opinion than others.
