The main cause of the war was because of the impressment of American sailors. This was not an issue regarding the freedom of America.

2) The rise of nationalism was due to America winning the final battle so most Americans believed that America had won the war. However, it was a stalemate and neither side won the war. 2) The Battle of New Orleans which was led by future President Andrew Jackson was victory for the United States and was seen as the U.S ending the war as the news of peace soon came after. 2) The rise of nationalism that occured after the War of 1812 was because of the victory in New Orleans. Andrew Jackson led American soldiers into a fight with the British and they soundly defeated them. This was huge because it was one of their only victories during this war, but also because so many British had died at the cost of nearly no American lives. Shortly after this, news of the Treaty of Ghent spread so to Americans it had seemed that they had won the war as a result of the large victory. I don't think this was justified seeing how the battle happened after the treaty was signed. Also, there were so many other losses for the Americans during the war, plus the treaty didn't result in much change. Although America had won against Britain in the Revolutionary War, they still felt tied to Britain. Some of the Federalists were still loyal to Britain and they valued GB as a trading partner. After GB had been impressing American soldiers, the War of 1812 was fought. The way America declared war was their way of telling GB they were independent and would fight against anyone who stood in their way. This war was the war that truly established America as  a world power and separate from GB.

2.) The War of 1812's final battle of New Orleans was what inspired American nationalism. Although the Treaty of Ghent was already signed, there was that battle where America completely destroyed the British. It was seen as the final battle of the war, and because America won, nationalism blossomed in America. Yes it should because this is the 2nd time Britain tried to take over America for itself and for a 2nd time America was able to stop this from happening and allowed things to go back the way they were before. This war showed that America is powerful and can fend for itself. This war sparked nationalism in America that would become very important later on. Britain burned Washington D.C and caused a lot of damage in America during this 2nd war so I think it is worthy of the 2nd war for independence, as Britain was trying to control American seas by capturing sailors also known as impressment.
2. The 2nd war led to nationalism because after the peace treaty was made we won the battle of New Orleans and this showed America that we re powerful, strong, and Independent. Most of the country was delighted by this win and sparked love for their country because of this. I think that this war should be considered the second war for independence because of many reasons. It started for a lot of the same reasons that the first war did. This made two of our congressmen very mad and they pushed for war; They and their followers being called war hawks. But after the war America was put on the board as a world power stating again that we will not be taken over by any country and not just Britain.

This made our country a world power and something the people could show pride in. This was what sparked nationalism after the war. Also, the American military was greatly outmatched by the British, especially by their Royal Navy. Even though both countries reached a stalemate, it was still impressive for the Americans to put up a fight to Britain. After the Treaty of Ghent was signed and the Battle of New Orleans, the United States were seen as a world power across the globe.

2) The War of 1812 inspired nationalism because the Americans were able to hold off one of the best militaries and keep their territory. This wave of nationalism spread after the Battle of New Orleans, a crushing victory for the Americans.
