Once again France was beginning to destroy U.S. navy ships. Federalists tried to push Adam to declare war with France to Improve chances of Federalist's winning the future election, but Adam's wouldn't make that decision based off winning the election, so he sent another representative to make another peace treaty with France. This led to the demise of any chance the Federalists had to win the election, leaving the slot open for Democratic-Republican, Thomas Jefferson.
