Hi! I’m Denise Otani, formerly Nakamura. No, I’m not related to that guy who pitched for the Angels, now batting for the Dodgers, although I lie a lot and say he’s my cousin even though his name is spelled Ohtani. I live in the San Gabriel Valley in Los Angeles. If you can’t tell, I am a huge Disney fan. I am a former cast member and long time freak. Our home is themed after our favorite Disney movies. From our retro Minnie/ Ratatouille themed kitchen, our Up themed living room, and Disneyland attraction stairway to my Disney explosion craft room, our home is our display of our love for the monopolized company. My child-like antics I feel, are what makes teaching so fun and fulfilling for me. I relate very closely with the students which makes me passionate in their success.

I married my prince charming on 10/21/17. He is my equal nerd, and my laugh partner. We have gone through a LOT in the past 6 years of marriage. Infertility, his mom passing, more infertility, his autistic older brother running away from home and passing away in another state, and our only embryo dying before I had a chance to become its mommy. But what won't kill us, makes us stronger. My husband is my everything and I can't picture a world without him. Also, DESTNO is our ‘ship name. It’s almost destiny that we’re together because our initials almost spell destiny: Denise Eric Seiko Tadao Nakamura Otani.

After working in the film industry for a total of 7 years, I was over it. The industry is not for me. While in costuming, I was working as a substitute teacher per my mom's request. Fast forward to 2014, I'm working for a media attorney, whom I miss dearly. I found myself daydreaming of the classroom and the students. It's where I wanted to be. So I made the tough decision to quit my job and that's when I started my journey with Pacific Oaks. I've been here for 10 years now off and on. This is my home stretch, and I'm almost done!

Bachelors Degree

I originally graduated from Cal State Long Beach with a Bachelors in Film and Electronic Arts and an additional degree in Theater Arts with an emphasis in Costuming. I worked in costuming for 5 years and loved it... until I didn't.

My husband and I are foodies and Funko pop collectors. So we have a couple of social media profiles that reflect our passions. On insta we are @happiest_pops_on_earth and we just started our @happiest_foodies_on_earth. On TikTok we are @Happiestfoodies. Hopefully in a few months we’ll have filled it with all the content we have been accumulating on our foodie adventures together.
