International Buddies WhatsApp Group

I set up a WhatsApp group which is includes a number of last year's international trainees (about 14 I think) and most of this year's joined whilst still in their home country. The idea was to support them with what they needed to bring with them, how to prepare and to allow a 'safe space' for them to ask questions and navigate cultural changes. Once I had set it up. I am able to prompt a couple of last year's trainees to highlight things that are coming up. There was a 'big thing' about 'don't be late - no excuses!' which amused me and the punctuality is so much better this year! Some people met up before the start of Term and some even went to meet people at the airport! I aim to get internationals added earlier this year.

At Worcester,

1- Admissions check qualifications.

2- Admissions send applicants follow up questions about the English educated system + SK task + 4 minute presentation brief. This is automated.

3- Admissions contact us once all docs have been submitted.

4- We then review SK tasks, read personal statements if SK is fine and then decide whether to interview.

We accept single linguists for French / Spanish on the course.

At Birmingham we have introduced an additional stage between application and interview so the process is:

Review applications on DfE apply
Eligible applicants are sent a written subject knowledge task and a video teaching task - they must submit these online for review.
Successful applicants at this stage are invited to interview.
