THE FEAR AND LIGHT
The child wanted to move, but he could not do so. He felt as if he was a statue with a surge of emotions pouring out from his small eyes. He knew that something was not right at the place; that there was something unfriendly beside the door. He shouted, "Help me! Please" But he felt as if the words didn't escape his mouth. He felt something move beside him. He heard an ice-cold voice, an unfriendly voice, near his back; "You will always be alone."He started to bang his legs at the chair; for he knew that he would have to escape. After a couple of failed attempts, he felt a hand at his shoulder! He saw his parent's smile as he closed his eyes; He also saw light, from the door, opening as he closed his eyes.

He opened his eyes to see another unfamiliar room. Having no idea where he was, how did he get there, he got up from his couch. He looked around and saw a room with torn, black curtains, scratched walls, and an unpleasant smell. He reached for the door which had a broken knob and found himself in a long corridor. He could see a window at the very end. The window was the only source of light in the dark, gloomy corridor. He made a run towards it and on the walls, he could those words, " You will always be alone." He stopped at the sight of those words. He looked back, slowly turning his head, for he knew, of whom were the footsteps of.

He didn't wait after he caught the glimpse of an oddly distorted hand. He made a run for the window, running as fast as he could, his heart beating as fast as a train, a smile now spreading across his face as the light braced him. Now he knew that he wasn't alone, that no one could scare him. He knew that all the negative forces feed on only one thing, 'fear'.Now he wasn't afraid of anything, for he felt comforted, accompanied by all of his good memories. He felt something warm rising inside him, as he walked in the infinite light. He had learned something that he wanted the world to learn too.

He was shivering with the thought that he will die.

The terrible creature made a vigorous move towards the child . The child also moved backward as much as the room allowed him to. The monster, this time, came very close to him. The child was breathing heavily and too overwhelmed by fear. But what to do? The child thought. Then after a few moments he started to gain courage to fight all weaknesses. Then he found a rod in the corner of the room and tried to shove the monster out of this room. With immense hardwork he succeeded in getting the monster out of the room.

Then he fainted , as he was way too tried after this episode. His throat was dried due the fear in his mind, so he moved his head trying to say ‘yes’. The gag was removed and the boy was given some water to drink. Thud! The boy fell from the seat while he was drinking, as the breaks were applied to the car. He was badly hurt. Blood was oozing out from his forehead. The boy then felt that something wrong has happened with the kidnappers’ plan.

He started to hear the siren of the patrol car.

STORY WRITING
Suchismita Chatterjee IX A

THE WORST BIRTHDAY
The child wanted to move but he could not do so. He started shouting for help, suddenly the door opened and the Police came in, followed by his weeping mother. A group of four men, who were smoking at one corner were thunderstuck by their abrupt entry and were arrested by the police that very moment. What had happened?

The child, George, was a student of class IV. He was a very cheerful boy and was the son of a rich landlord. It was his birthday today and his mother, Isabella, a kind and commited lady, had promised to take him to his favourite fair - 'THE GRAND AMERICAN FAIR' , which was set up every 3 years. So as planned, Isabella took his boy to the fair. The duo, dressed in expensive but comfy outfits, took the tickets and entered the gate. Instantaneously, George ran to the Ferris wheel. He looked expectantly at his mother's anxious face and pleaded, "C'mon mother I won't fall down, see so many children are doing it and they look so happy. And moreover today is my day!" She replied reluctantly, "Ok Ok fine". He hugged his mother joyfully and patiently waited for her to book the tickets. After a few minutes she was done and she turned around, "C'mon son let's go" But her son was nowhere to be seen. "Son I don't want to play games ,we will miss the ride!" She laughed and expected his son to burst out laughing from behind some bush or tree but when nothing whatsoever happened, she grew worried. "Son?...."

After having frantically searched for her 9 year old at every corner of the fair, she phoned the Police and it arrived in a heartbeat. That very moment a call came. "Pick it up and put it on speaker" instructed Mr. Johnson, the commissioner of the district and asked everyone to keep silent. "Worried for your boy, haan? I see.... He has nice little fingers.." came the voice, quite harsh and manly. "Hey hey no no I will give whatever you want, leave him for God's sake!" Shouted the fretting woman. "Whatever I want..hmmm..clever lady.. then bring me 1400 dollars latest by an hour. Keep it near the washroom, your child will be given back to you, and that too in one piece " And before Isabella could say something, a she heard him laugh harshly and her child's shout and the phone got disconnected. "Ok, get a suitcase, an empty one. Don't worrytIsabella.Keet it near the washroom, as soon as someone gets to collect it, we will follow them and catch them." She did as she was told. As soon as a man collected the suitcase, the Police began following him. He entered a room. "Which room is this?! It's my fair and I have never seen it!" gasped the head of the fair. "Keep silent" said Johnson. They saw a group of men smoking at one corner and were just about to open the suitcase. At the sight of the Police, they tried to escape, but in vain. They were caught by the Police and the boy hugged his mother, half laughing, half crying.

Dust Of Snow is an eight line poem written by Robert Frost which is built upon the idea that nature has it's own ways to help us to fight our depression .

The poet stood under a hemlock tree . A crow shook the branch and the snow fall on the poet . He at once got busy to clean the snow dust . This changed his mood . He thought that even hemlock tree which is poisonous and a crow which is not considered a positive sign has changed his mood from sad to happy .

He forgot all he was thinking earlier and shook off his depressive thoughts . Probably he was cheerful after that and did something useful . He saved some part of the day that he had rued . And enjoyed it happily .

Therefore when he lost all of his hopes and he and his family were on the verge of starvation he asked God for help.

Lencho believed that God helps everyone who have clear conscience. He wrote a letter to God asking for 100 pesos. Lencho’s immense faith in God even impressed the postmaster and he was generous enough to help him by collecting money from post office employees and he also contributed some part of his salary. They felt that it will not shake Lencho’s faith in God and it will also be a charitable act.Though they were not able to collect more than 70 pesos.

Lencho showed his innocence by doing direct conversation with God. when he looked in the letter that he received he was full of anger .According to him God cannot deny him what he had asked for nor God can make mistakes. He abused post office employees calling them a ‘bunch of crooks‘ which was quiet ironic .Thus this tells about his correspondence With God.

XF
Roll no. 22
'Fire and Ice is a highly symbolic poem by Robert Frost'
Fire and Ice teaches us how to read between the lines. This poem talks about fire and ice which are used to depict two different scenarios. Fire depicts warmth as a desire, passion, love and care on the other hand ice depicts coldness.

Coldness is a feeling we associate with dreariness and we feel ice is a numbing agent which restricts us to feel the warmth ie love and compassion. Ice here depicts a barbarous nature and on the other hand fire depicts desire

Both love and hatred are complete opposites and unhealthy when felt in excess. The poet feels that these counteract forces act against each other and will eventually lead to the end of our existence. This symbolizes a deep meaning of the philosophy of living that the poet believes which is the ultimate end of all living beings because of fire and ice.

ROLL NO. 20
Fire and ice is a highly symbolic poem as it symbolises two different things here. Fire and Ice.The poet says that there are two opinions about the end of this world. The symbols-Fire and Ice have been used for human emotions like desire and hatred. The poet talks about the two different beliefs regarding end of this world. He finds the human desires same as fire in its nature. On he other ,the second belief tells that ice is sufficient for destroying this world and the poet compares the nature of ice with hatred.
As fire can spread very fast and cause a great destruction in no time likewise our desires may also prove very destructive. Hatred causes slow destruction like ice but it is also very harmful. From these two scenarios we can conclude that Fire and Ice is a highly symbolic poem.
