         <description><![CDATA[<p>I am Hanju Kim and I was born in gwangju Korea and I am half canadian also. Ive lived my whole life here in Korea but traveled to Canada maybe 3 times. I like to go out and ride bicycles at night because it is colder outside at night and more refreshing. I went to a public School from first grade until seventh grade then moved to KFS and it is my second year in the school. </p>]]></description>

         <title>Summer Trip</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><p>My summer break started just like any other break. I was at home not doing much and just relaxing. One day me and my brother wanted to do something outside, so we went outside took our bicycles outside and started to head to a park about 15 minutes away we started riding towards and saw there was a steep road and we had to go through there to get to our destination so we kept going and after that its was just a normal road to the park.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p></li></ol><p><br/></p><p>We just took a break at the park when we got there and went straight back home. But we took a wrong turn and kind of got lost. We didn't know where we were at but we knew we were far away, so my brother used his phone for navigation and we got back home way later than i expected. After that day we didn't go out much and stayed home and played video games and watched a few movies.</p><p><br/></p><p>One special day my Korean friend texted me to go out because it was his last day of vacation and he wanted to have fun. First we went to a pc room and played games for maybe 30 minutes, then went to a 노레방 and sang a few songs. After we finished singing we walked back to our houses, but when I came back I realized I only have a few days until school and I'll have to come back to waking up early.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><ol start="2"><li><p>This break was just like any other break before, but this time I decided to make a list of movies that I've watched and tried&nbsp; to do more activities but to be honest I Didn't achieve that. Just to list a few movie’s there are Shutter Island, The Shining, Source Code and many other films that total up to 21 films.</p></li></ol><p><br/></p><p>During the middle of break Giju, me, and Daein went out and hung out. First we went to a rock climbing place where there were other people that were good which made me kind of intimidated but after about 2 hours we left and went to go eat some 김밥 and 떡볶이.</p><p><br/></p><p>After we ate our food we shortly walked to a huge Emart and browsed around but didn’t buy anything at the end, but still saw some cool things. After doing all that useless stuff we went to Baskin-Robbins ate some ice cream and went to a PC방, and while me and Daein were playing online games I saw Giju was playing chess. We visited the Emart one more time but went back and did nothing for the rest of the time.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Hanju Kim</p><p>Mr.Lynn Perkins</p><p>ELA</p><p>September/10, 2024</p><p><br/></p><p>No Way Back&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;There was a planet that was habited and had a living civilization that was near to earth called Terisis. Though Terisis was habited, the people on the planet were not civilized at all, even though they have been on this earth for over 30,000 years. The people were dumber than cavemen. They didn't know how to use fire, they only knew how to hunt animals. Although they were stupid about most things, they had an amazing talent.&nbsp; They could understand and communicate in any language they heard.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;Meanwhile, on&nbsp; Earth, there was a man by the name of Tyler. Tyler was having a really hard time in his life.&nbsp; He was struggling with money because he couldn't find a good paying job. He worked all day at a little store, and made a pittance. One day, as he was walking down the road like he regularly did after a long day of work, he saw a sign stuck to a wall saying “Do you want to take a break on the newly discovered planet Terisis?” Tyler remembered seeing news about this new planet. He decided to give it a try since he thought he deserved a break. He searched the website and signed up to go to Terisis, but he noticed he was the only one who signed. Tyler didn't really see anything wrong with it. The next day he was supposed to go to the location that the site sent him, a secretive lab that not many knew about. A lab worker led him to the capsule that would take him to Terisis.&nbsp; As soon as he sat down, the strap automatically locked him down. It was going straight to Terisis. Tyler was slightly frightened and not really ready, but then an AI voice went off saying “capsule launching in 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 strike ready” and a loud beep went off.&nbsp; With a harsh launch Tyler jumped up very slightly but went back down because of the strap. The capsule was pretty straightforward and was very fast, as it was traveling at the speed of light. Tyler blacked out for some time, but when he woke up he saw beautiful wide land with green grass and tall trees. While Tyler was getting out of the capsule he found a knife tucked in the very corner of the capsule. He grabbed it and gently put it in his bag he had carried with him. As he was walking through the flatlands he saw a person that he thought was a caveman walking towards a chicken very quietly.&nbsp; The caveman proceeded to throw a spear right through the chicken. The caveman took the spear out of the chicken and then noticed Tyler just standing there in shock and confusion, the caveman walked towards him and shouted out something among the lines of “hello, human” and Tyler shouted back “who are you” the caveman said “We are Thenesus.” Tyler was amazed by the nature of this creature. Tyler told the Thenesus about earth and how he got to Teresis.&nbsp; The Thenesus told Tyler about Thenesian culture and said “There is a leader that rules the world and whoever kills the leader becomes the leader.” Then the Thenesus ran away to the bushes . Tyler, not having anything but a knife and no way to go back to Earth, and no way to see anyone he ever knew and loved, he decided to become the leader of the world and have a wealthy life and be seen as more than just a poor worker. He sought power now.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;&nbsp;Tyler traveled through a massive jungle for hours and hours and found the city where he assumed the leader’s house was located. After he went into the city and found some clothes that he could wear to fit in. He tried to ask where the leader's house was, but all the other Thenesus’ were confused and said “I don’t know what you are talking about.” Tyler was getting angry and frustrated. He thought to himself “It doesn’t need to be immediate.” Waiting for a good opportunity and trying to fit into society was the best idea he could come up with. After Tyler had been in the city for a few days,&nbsp; he joined the activities people did such as religious rituals and chanting. Even though he couldn’t really chant that well, he tried his absolute hardest to fit in. After a few more days he saw a man that had fancy silk clothes on. He was coming out of the biggest home in the city. Tyler followed him to a private location where Tyler pulled out his knife, then stabbed him from the back and killed him. After Tyler killed the fancy man, people started to gather around him, staring at him blankly. He thought this was their way of inviting him to royalty, but in fact, the man he killed was just a man that made his own fancy clothes. Unfortunately, one thing the first Thenesus didn’t tell him was that if anyone kills an innocent man they will be executed by the people. And so, while Tyler thought he would become the new leader of Terisis, the people started coming closer and closer until they surrounded him on all sides. They grabbed him and carried him to the nearby river. They shoved him in the water until his face hit the ground. He was knocked unconscious as the last of his breaths flowed away into the river.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>We're about to explore the seas with my boys Arronax, Conseil, and Nemo. We were at their house for about 3 to 4 hours then left at around 8 PM. It was probably the best day of Chuseok;/ since I didn’t do anything nice after that.</p><p><br/></p><p>My least favorite part of chuseok was the days I didn’t do anything as I was extremely bored.</p><p>One of the worst parts of vacation was when I first started to read the book I was assigned for, It was not fun to read through the first few chapters since there were hard words I couldn’t understand nor pronounce, but it got better afterwards.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>Science fiction : Prompt 8, A new app allows people to relive any memory in perfect detail. However, there’s a catch: each time you use it, you forget a different memory. Would you use it? Why or why not?</p><p><br/></p><p>I would not use the app if I could, since it says I'll forget another memory.&nbsp; If I use the app there's a chance I could forget very important memories like traveling with family and I could also forget the effects of the app and use it without knowing anything about it. I could forget the memories of me learning useful things and it can affect my knowledge.&nbsp;</p><p><br/></p><p>Even though the Idea of reliving a memory is very tempting it would be a shame to forget a memory for another and It can be very risky too. I would much prefer to just have all the memories instead of losing one.&nbsp;</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>If I were to visit an underwater location I would visit the titanic. The reason I would go there is to see what the ship looked like and see how much damage was done, and to see how far the ship really sunk. The other reason I would go is to compare it to the movie I haven't even watched before. The three things I would bring are massive air tank, a mask, and a wetsuit because I would need to breathe and to swim comfortably.&nbsp;</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>Prompt 3: Nautilus Yelp review</p><p><br/></p><p>As a Marine Biologist I've been living in the Nautilus for quite some time and I can say that my experience aboard was both fascinating and frustrating. I discovered sea creatures that no other knows about and locations people thought as just a myth. Although the cons were that</p><p>entertainment was very limited. We could mostly read, watch fish, and rarely encounter a sea monster. I give a 3/5 rating.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>A few days ago when I woke up in the morning and saw a key with a note reading “find what it unlocks” fist thing I would have been creeped out a bit but over time curiosity would get me to look for any doors that might be hard to notice. If I even managed to find the door I would definitely try to open the door with the key to see what’s inside. When I opened the door there was a ladder leading down to a bunker with water, pills, food and a bed. After I saw that I went back up then locked the door and saved the bunker for when I needed to go inside.</p><p><br/></p><p>A mysterious voice comes over the school intercom and says, “Initiate protocol 9.” then silence.</p><p>Speculate wildly on what Protocol 9 might be, and weather or not you're part of it.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>Right after the intercom said, “Initiate Protocol 9,” the whole school went silent. I thought, okay, this is it, maybe the school’s been hiding something all this time. Secret agents? Hidden tunnels? Maybe even a monster in the basement? Teachers were locking doors, kids were whispering like we were about to get abducted or something. I was fully convinced we were part of some government experiment. until I heard someone from the senior hallway laughing and yelling, “They actually fell for it!” Turns out Protocol 9 isn’t some secret mission, but it’s just a senior prank. I was ready to fight aliens, and it was all for nothing.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>My Assignment Journal Reflection.</p><p><br/></p><ol><li><p>My first review is my short story. I think my story had a pretty interesting story and character but when on the document I was writing on I think that I had a lot of typing mistakes which were mostly commas. I would not place the commas where I needed to. Overall My view on my story might be a bit biased but my opinion on the story and the end was good compared to the stories I wrote before in middle school.</p></li></ol><p><br/></p><ol start="2"><li><p>This bell ringer was a bit of a silly one since there wasn’t really a prompt but it was more like a make your own social media post kind of assignment. I wrote a post about Aronnax, Conseil, and Ned going out the nautilus to explore the seas, and Aronnax playing random que’s in fortnite, which is not realistic and very silly.</p></li></ol><p><br/></p><ol start="3"><li><p>For the bell ringer for vacation I think my flaws were the amount of detail i put in the 2 paragraphs. I think that it wasn’t necessary to put in the time that I stayed at a family’s house.</p></li></ol><p><br/></p><ol start="4"><li><p>This bell ringer was more like an opinion based writing but I think my opinion is a good answer for some and not good for some others.</p></li></ol><p><br/></p><ol start="5"><li><p>The Nautilus yelp review bell ringer in my opinion was good because it was accurate to the story we were basing it on.</p></li></ol><p><br/></p><ol start="6"><li><p>The last bell ringer was kind of messy because I wrote it in a hurry so the ending was rushed and also everything else I wrote was different then what I wanted so I don’t really like it too much.</p></li></ol><p><br/></p><ol start="7"><li><p>I think the way I wrote the summer vacation summary was bland, because in what I wrote there aren't many events in it and pretty boring to read about.</p></li></ol><p><br>8. The “About Me” writing was good.          <description><![CDATA[<p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>Duke Theseus gives Hermia a different choice: Obey her father, become a nun, or face death. What would you choose if you were in Hermia’s position? Why.</p><p><br/></p><p>I think if it’s between those three it will have to be Obey her father. The reason why I chose it is because there’s not another choice like there is in the book, and even if Hermia was married to Demetrius Hermia still won’t love him, and probably still truly love Lysander. Lysander would probably and hopefully know that she still loves him.</p><p><br/></p><p>In act 2 Oberon and Puck use magic to control others' emotions. Do you think using magic ( or any kind of power) to change someone’s feelings is fair? Why or why not?</p><p><br/></p><p>I don’t think it is fair to manipulate others emotions using magic. The reason to why I think this is because I believe a person’s emotions or feelings are the most important part of somebody, and to change a part of it without any consent seems almost like stealing their emotions just so it is never to be used again.&nbsp;</p><p><br/></p><p>Confusing Situations - The characters in the play often feel lost and confused in the forest. Write about a time when you felt confused or lost in a situation. How did you handle it?</p><p><br/></p><p>One time I remember being somewhat lost and confused was when I went out for a bike ride at night, and went wherever I felt like going, but after maybe like 10 minutes of just randomly moving around I realized that I didn't even know where I was. I was confused since I've never been into this area. The way I handled the situation was just to keep going where I felt was right and found somewhere familiar then went back home.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Wrong Place, Wrong Time</strong>– You wake up in a different century, but everyone insists you belong there. What clues make you realize something is wrong, and how do you prove you don’t belong?<br></p><p>Today after a good and deep sleep I woke up to my alarm clock shouting through my ears like any other day. I open the curtains and I see the miserable and obnoxious traffic barely moving which annoys me but I realize that the streets are a bit strange. After getting ready and going ou t of the house I saw screens on buildings announcing the new president which then scared me a little since the new president was elected not too long ago, then a stranger walked up to me and said “who are you voting for” which i responded by running back home and thinking about what is happening. I got on my phone and searched the election and that is when I saw the year and found out that I was in the next century.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>I think through my writing over the year,  my writing was quite unspecific and sudden to what happens. I think I should have a more processed way of writing since most of the times I write the next part just comes to my mind instantly so when i come back to read what i wrote it is in a mess and i have to fix it all over again. Before I write i should probably collect my ideas and how the plot will move to make my writing more organized and not go through the trouble of realizing the mistakes i made and how it sounds weird. </p><p><br/></p><p>What I like about my writings are how the plot moves on which i feel goes by very quickly and is mostly told by what the characters are doing and a little bit of dialogue when something important is going to happen.</p>]]></description>

If so I will tell you about the differences between “barriers” in 20,000 leagues under the sea and The boy in the striped pajamas. The two barriers are both physical and emotional which I will go into deeper detail once I get into my main points.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>&nbsp;The critical difference between the barriers of the two books is that in 20,000 leagues under the sea, the barrier is in Nemo’s mind/emotions. Captain Nemo doesn’t want to leave the nautilus since he has grown to hate society because of a traumatic past event that killed his family. But in The boy in the striped pajamas, Bruno and Shmuel are unable to play with each other since there is a physical barrier and the fence of the concentration camp, blocking Shmuel from leaving.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>&nbsp;The barriers can also affect one another in mostly negative ways, For example, in 20,000 leagues under the sea, Nemo once said “I have done with society entirely, for reasons which I alone have the right of appreciating." This quote by Captain Nemo suggests his hate and desire for isolation and his loneliness which sprouts from the isolation. Also in The boy in the striped pajamas, Bruno’s curiosity&nbsp; for what is beyond the fence which is very clearly shown in this quote “I don't see why I have to be stuck over here on this side of the fence where there's no one to talk to and no one to play with and you get to have dozens of friends and are probably playing for hours every day. I'll have to speak to Father about it.” goes too far which ends up with his life at cost.</p><p><br></p><p>&nbsp;I believe the reason why Captain Nemo acts the way he does is because of his past which killed his family and that is what led him to build the nautilus and gave him the hatred for human society he has, and his personality traits we see in the novel. And for the way Bruno acts in The boy in the striped pajamas I think we see Bruno as just an innocent boy that doesn't understand what is going on and can’t comprehend why people would commit such a cruel act.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>&nbsp;Some might argue that both characters are victims and don’t have much choice. However, while Bruno is a child with no power, Nemo is an adult who builds his own prison. I think it all has to do with what Captain Nemo is afraid of and that he is afraid that once he gets out of the nautilus and back into human society he will relive his past. But for Bruno’s case, I believe he is just very confused and ignoring the facts about everything about the camp and why the kids are wearing striped pajamas but at the same time both struggle with the core issue of isolation, except for Bruno who still talks with Shmuel but can't really play with him so he does get a bit lonely sometimes. Although Bruno himself doesn’t have much power, he doesn’t feel like he is completely alone like captain Nemo is most of the time, since Bruno has just one friend that is Shmuel whilst the only “friend” Nemo had on the ship was maybe his crew and Aronnax, who I think really just wanted to get to learn more about the marine life instead of actually be his friend since he was a marine biologist and was always interested of the sea since the introduction of his character, this quote by Aronnax shows his true fascination with the sea. “The sea is everything. It covers seven-tenths of the terrestrial globe. Its breath is pure and healthy. It is an immense desert, where man is never lonely, for he feels life stirring on all sides.”&nbsp;</p><p><br>&nbsp;In conclusion, both <em>20,000 Leagues Under the Sea</em> and <em>The Boy in the Striped Pajamas</em> explore the idea of barriers both physical and emotional, but in very different ways. Captain Nemo’s isolation is all his acts&nbsp; due to emotional trauma, while Bruno’s is caused by the physical fence and his lack of understanding about the world around him. Even though their situations are different, both characters experience loneliness and the deep effects of being cut off from others. These stories remind us that barriers in life can take many forms, and whether they’re built by others or by ourselves, they can shape who we are and how we see the world.</p><p><br/></p>]]></description>
